Un-Winterizing Excitement
After our last trip in December 2022, we winterized in preparation of freezing weather in January.   And for most of February I wasn’t doing well enough to travel.

But March 2023!   In preparation of our next trip leaving this Sunday, we brought our LD back to life today.  Now for those who don’t need to winterize, let me share the feeling of elation when everything in the rig is working after a long slumber.  And the catalytic converter with a cat strap hasn’t walked off.

The simple joys of RVing.

I know the feeling, Ed, and Margee!  Unfortunately, we are not there yet.  Snowing again today.

Warren, we are working on investing in a place where it doesn't snow.  10 years of shoveling is enough!  ;)

And my relatives wonder why I left Missouri years ago .......
Mother always said you don't have to shovel rain.

Greg, you can always move to Florida like so many other Californians are doing. Maybe it's because of less regulations, no state income tax, no earthquakes, and snow once every 50 years. :)

Counter that with Hurricanes, humidity, snakes and the lack of hills and mountains, assembled on a skinny peninsula bounded by water on nearly all sides with a big chunk of swamp in between.  ::)

I'll take mountains and rivers every time!   ;)

Morro Bay is pretty nice, not too populated, not too hot/cold, and relatively affordable….

Not to mention three major desert zones and 3,427 miles of highly varied coastline.
There are a lot of varied terrains to explore...many that never see snow.

That's a shame, Ron and Larry, as you'll never experience the joy that Ed described!

I’ve successfully avoided winterization in my first year.

Will winterize this coming September when my rig’s California adventure ends, taking up residence in Alpine Wyoming each winter.  While the space is heated and covered, I’ll go through the process anyway, as power outages are a thing.

But the storage price can’t be beat (free) so I’m willing experience the joy of winterization.

That looks like a hangar, is it in a fly-in community?
Unless you are moving to Wyoming, that's a long drive from the Bay Area to pick up your rig.

Are you giving up on off-season travel? IMO, it's the best time to travel.

Yep, it’s my brother in law’s hanger house, it’s empty in the winter, so it works out.

Long drive or a short flight. :-)

I LOVE Yellowstone, this year will be my 14th visit on the way back from Alaska, so having the rig closer is a win rather than driving the rig out each year.

I might bring it back to California in four plus years, but for the next three years, it’s a better home base.

Pretty fancy hangar, Dave!
I actually still like winter and seasonal changes, even after over 70 years in Alaska!
But I admit it's nice to escape and hit the road for a while now and then.

The hanger will do in a pinch.

I grew up with winter and the seasons for the first half of my life, I miss them too, though I have become a bit soft living in California.

You’ll be needing one of these, Dave.  Oh, and a Roof Rake and some fire wood cutting and splitting tools….

Have fun, seriously!

"I actually still like winter and seasonal changes..."

I was an ignorant native upstate New Yorker! That is until Uncle Sam sent me to California where (while sunbathing on the barracks roof at 29 Palms) I had an epiphany! Why did I spend so much of my youth in such a terrible climate?   ::)

Hi Dave; Nice hangar!  You could probably use a fresh water tank heater to keep your LiF batteries warm for short power failures. It's about a 65 watt load, and if I remember correctly you have about 5 kw available.  75 hours of heater power.   Amazon.com: Facon 12V Heater Pad for RV Holding Tank, W 12" x L 18" with...
I wouldn't use the propane heater inside the building.   RonB

My plan is full winterization, hook up to power, but not run anything, and assume unstable heat.

Not wanting to monitor the hanger, and too expensive to go out in the middle of winter to check on things.

Switching from shorts to long pants..... for a couple of months  ;)
I've tried to go from pants to shorts for the past month in San Pedro - has not worked out for more than a day.  49 this morning, but far short of the need to winterize!  :-)
