Lost a good one last night.
With a sorrowful heart, my wife and I announce the passing of our close friend Joan Taylor.
She died last night after a long illness. We were lucky to arrive in San Jose yesterday and see her before the end set in.
Joan was one of the most intelligent and stubborn person I have known, she lived life her way.
Her well-thought-out postings and responses will be missed by me and many forum members. She was a natural-born teacher.

Life goes on differently for everyone, Joan would say "your mileage may vary" (YMMV).

So sad to hear, suspected something wasn’t right for her to give up her Lazy Daze.

Only met her once at Morro Bay.

She was very generous with me, with plenty of Bay Area suggestions to help out this newbie.

Joan was an absolute treasure, in all things LD specifically, and in life generally. We first met her in 2007 at a pullout on the Tioga Road in Yosemite where we, heading east, had stopped for a distant view of Half Dome. She was headed west, having cut her trip short to take her ailing dog home to the vet. She saw our rig and u-turned in. We were newbies then, on only our second trip, but had started reading this forum months prior. She introduced herself as Joan Taylor and I blurted out, “Joan from the forum!”  That was the start of a wonderful friendship with a woman of extensive knowledge, straight talking, and biting wit. Through the SoCal Caravan Club, and our mutual subgroup the Past Tents, we’ve enjoyed scores of camping experiences with Joan over the years. She was one of a kind and irreplaceable. We are just two of a great many who will miss her hugely. Be at peace, old friend. — Jon & Loni (ever grateful for the many friends the LD life has blessed us with)

Although we never met in person, it feels like I lost an old  friend.  Joan often replied to my newbe questions with a well thought out and spot on response.  Larry described her as stubborn.  I’d like to think of her as very sure of herself and she will be dearly missed.  Rest in peace Joan.

I’m deeply saddened to hear that we’ve lost Joan. She was a treasure—smart, skilled, knowledgeable, and above all generous with her knowledge. Although I only met her in person once (ten years ago at Morro Bay), Joan was a good friend in email correspondence, and I’ll miss her very much.

I am sad to learn about JC's passing. She was such a knowledgeable person with great communication skills. A natural mentor to many of us. And she was another one from the 2003 Lazy Daze class. Thank you Joan!

We've lost a good friend and a real treasure.  We always had a great time meeting up with her at LD Cavavan gatherings and other RV outings,  She was always warm and friendly and willing to pitch in whenever needed.

Joan,

Blessings to you dear lady. Into Gods hands, I pray for your eternal rest. Peace to all who have had the chance to know her well. I am pleased to have known her if only briefly. Wish I could have known her more closely. Maybe in heaven. Until then, rest well Joan.

Of course there is just one Joan Taylor!  How will we survive without her?  We spent a bit of time discussing the merits of different foods - particularly her favorite - the elusive Royal Corona Beans!

Her knowledge and willingness to help is legendary, and more's the pity never was I lucky enough to meet her in person.

I'm trying to imagine a conversation between her and Ed when they meet up next!  ;->

Joan,

Hard scrabble, witty, helpful, teacher, friend.  Your articles in rversonline introduced me to the wonderful value and responsibility vested in Lazy Daze motorhome ownership.  Your kindred, pioneer spirit lowered the psychological barriers to entering the Lazy Daze Caravan Club.

I am grateful to you and I miss you.

Until we meet again…

I am deeply saddened by Joan's passing! Have you ever been approached by this wonderful person without a smile on that beautiful face, freckles and all?

I was honored the day I stood shoulder to shoulder with Joan when we both got 'numbered' into the Caravan Club.

Going to miss you gal!

So very sad to hear.  I didn't know she was sick.  But I'm not part of the Past Tents anymore as my life has changed too.

She will be dearly missed as Jon is right, She was an absolute treasure.

Reading thru the missives about Joan, the word treasure has been used often.  Absolutely true she was a treasure.

We last saw Joan last August, and as her body was struggling with her illness, her spirit was as full of life as ever, wit sharp and full of insight and humor! Those are the memories we will always treasure.

My word.   We, lb and I, met Joan in person at a PNW LD gathering.  We enjoyed her thoughts and ideas.  A different idea or opinion didn't faze her.  She listened and opined with the best of them.

I will miss her.

Wherever Joan is now, the one in charge there better get ready and hope they have everything in order. And have a wry sense of humor at the ready when Joan walks up.

We met Joan shortly after taking delivery of our new LD in summer 2003. We were heading north back home to the Bay Area and decided to stop at the Camping World in Morgan Hill to begin the second part of buying a LD, equipping it. Joan, a new owner too, was in the parking lot with her LD and came over to greet us. A memorable encounter and we'd made our first "in person" LD friend. Little did we know where that would lead.

We all joined the Caravan Club, I think at the same meeting that December, and became Past Tents, and encountered each other many times over the years. I like a person who's a bit of a character and Joan was that in spades. Always friendly and kind but always with a bit of a twist and some sardonic humor. And a twinkle in her eye.

I've always thought I was pretty knowledgeable about this LD and RV stuff, but at one point my wife joined the Ladeze of Lazy Daze for a campout. Naturally she spent much of the weekend in one of Joan's educational seminars or another. When my wife arrived home and I asked how things went she said, "Well, that Joan Taylor has forgotten more about motorhoming than you'll ever know." Ouch. But true.

And that brings up another important aspect about Joan. I do a lot of "guy things," motorcycling, skiing, camping, RVing and the like and Joan and her sisters, without saying a word about it, remind guys like me that these aren't guy things at all. And that in their own way women often do these things as well or better than the guys, often employing superior strategies because they can't simply bore through like the guys think they can.

If Joan rode motorcycles, which I think she did at one point, she'd be like this:

Smarter not harder. And with charm and good humor. What good fortune to have known Joan Taylor.

Oh my!  I know she recently sold her beloved Lazy Daze but didn't realize she was sick.  Victoria and I only met her once (at Morro Bay a few years ago) and she was kind enough to let us tour her TK.  A wonderful woman who will be dearly missed by all!

Poking around old pictures, I found this one of Joan from 2017. She was camera averse, so this was a sneak shot. — Jon

She was with everyone here as long as she could be.  She was last active on the board less than 3 days ago, the evening of February 1, 2023....

This is heartbreaking news, and life is too short.

As a newer member, I will say that Joan was an extremely knowledgeable "Hero Member" that will be missed.

"I was honored the day I stood shoulder to shoulder with Joan when we both got 'numbered' into the Caravan Club."

And now comes a mystery ---- When did that occur?

I've gone through my membership papers and cannot find a date. From info in my packet I learned that members Geo. & Jane WARD had CC #2931 issued in May of 2007, also at Live Oak while my # is 2934 . The next Live Oak GTG was the following November (2007), and it is because of that I believe Joan and I joined that month. If anyone knows what Joan's CC membership number was I,m betting it's one digit ± from mine.  ;D

I bought my Lazy Daze MB in 2007 and she. along with Andy Baird, was one of the main reasons I did. She was such a knowlegeable person and always eager to share what she knew and help others. Rest in peace, Joan.
