Heater Thermostat replacement
I see and have read a bunch of posts about replacing the thermostat.
Mine works but is very slow to cycle. Goes from being pretty chilly and then when it does kick on it stays on so long it gets uncomfortably hot.  And then it repeats to the other end and gets cold.
I see a honeywell replacement that must work just fine as many have used it.
The specs show it runs with 24 volts.
Is the original thermostat set up with 24 volts.
Just curious how that is accomplished.
Thanks

Hi Bones;  The digital thermostats I've seen have an internal battery, usually two 1.5 v AAA cells.  They can switch up to 24 volts. They just have a relay contact to interface with the heater and they don't really have anything to do with the heater voltage. Mine doesn't have a backlight, so the batteries last at least a year. When off it still shows the temperature.  When running it keeps the set temp to within a degree.   This is what I ordered, now it says it has a backlight. (also 3 AAA batteries.)  Amazon.com: Emerson 1E78-140 Non-Programmable Heat Only Thermostat for...   RonB
added on to:  This, when set to on, shows the set point temperature. It would be nice to have a temporary backlight if you want to change the temperature at night, but we sleep in the king bed with our heads next to the thermostat, and didn't want an 'always on' light just inches away.  It is a small display. For thermostats designed for a house, the displays and units get much larger and would require more wall space.

I replaced the two factory thermostats with these in a previous rig. Worked great. Just have to remember to replace the batteries every year or so.

Another inexpensive replacement option. I have installed two of these over the years to replace factory units and have worked great. I might have had a tighter space to work with than some so if that is a consideration the dimensions on this one might be worth a look.

Be smarter than me, I reused the original thermostat mount screws, that are too long for the new honeywell stat.  Next time I tried to use my air conditioner, nothing.  I chased wires and troubleshot for a couple days..... Discovered one of the too long screws had penetrated into the air cond thermostat wire and shorted 2 of the wires together.  Backed out the screw....problem solved.

I just installed this Emerson 1E78-140 Non-Programmable Heat Only Thermostat.  Cost $32 and took all of 5 minutes to install.  Works much better than the original thermostat.  Now I can actually set the temperature by degrees instead of guessing.

Installed the same one a month ago, I too like how it works vs the factory thermostat.

"I just installed this..."

:D  That's the one that LazyBones2 installed in our LD back in March of 2021!  ;)

The one I installed is a different make/model, but like this one, it can be set as low as 45F. We don't use the furnace much when camped in cold weather, but it is invaluable to keep plumbing from freezing when we are away for a bit, and when we are bundled up asleep. Thermostats which cannot be set lower than 50F or above run too frequently.
