Toilet Seal Replacement Question
Hello All,

I'm replacing the toilet seal on my 2008/2009 Sealand 511H and the seal has changed from the original. The original part number is 385310677 which is two parts; a one piece rubber seal and a white plastic ring on top of that. The new part number is 385311462, which is two rubber seals.

My question is after I install the two rubber seals, do I need to reinstall the white plastic ring, or do I ditch that? I called tech support and they didn't seem to be very knowledgeable about the issue.

I also noticed that the diameter of the newer rubber seal is 1/4" bigger than the old. Hoping that's not an issue. See attached photos showing the originals and new seal (on the left first photo)

When I replaced the seals on our 2009, it included the 2 rubber seals.  I don’t remember that our toilet had a plastic ring.  Are there any instructions with the new seals?

Hey Ed,

Thanks for responding. I was hoping you would respond since yours was the post I found on changing the seals and we have  the year LD.

There are instructions and they don't mention the plastic ring. Ken Fears pretty much had the same chassis as us and he didn't mention it either. I'm following his method as I do this. I miss not being able to call him. What a great guy.

Thanks again for responding.
Ron

Is the kit a genuine Sealand or an aftermarket?

I changed our LDs last year with a Sealand kit that contained a rubber and a plastic ring, just like the original.
I have had poor experiences with the aftermarket rubber ring kits.

Larry, our replacement contained 2 rubber seals.  I have another one as a spare.  So tomorrow, I’ll check the parts number and all the parts.  Will follow up tomorrow.

Followup:  The spare set of seals parts number is #385311462, which is the same as Ron's.  The kit contains 2 rubber seals, but not a plastic ring.  Now, there could be a plastic ring that is part of our toilet but I don't remember it.  Since Larry's has a plastic ring I suppose you could install it and see if it leaks?

I got mine directly from Sealand, it was late last year. They changed the part number from the original. I did see that there was at least one aftermarket replacement set that looks identical to what I have, but thought it good to pass. After reading your response Larry I'm glad I did.

Toilet bowl is soaking in vinegar overnight. Hopefully I will get around to installing it all tomorrow.

Thank you for responding

Update: Two days and there's still water in the toilet bowl. The plastic (or teflon) ring is not needed with the replacement gasket kit.

It will be good not to have to dump the black tank every four days on the next trip. Happy Days!!
