Airstream Basecamp
Since I cannot order new LD and no used ones available we are now considering and Airstream Basecamp 20X.  It appears to be very impressive small trailer.  Anyone have any experience or know anyone that has used this unit?

Here is some info on it.

I was inside one at a dealership in Idaho. It felt cramped and gloomy. But take that with a grain of salt, because it was indoors, so it's not as if there was sun streaming through the windows. Your best bet is to find a dealership and see one for yourself.

Also, it's expensive for what you get (and you don't get Lazy Daze quality, as I can attest after two Airstreams). If it were me, I'd be at least considering a similar-sized Scamp.

Check Escape trailers while you are at it, my brother has owned several small trailers, the Escape is the best of them.

Yes, Larry and Andy, Scamps are nice. As you know, I took delivery of a new one last April. But nothing takes the place of a Lazy Daze. After several nights out in my new Scamp, I just put it up for sale on the Fiberglass RV's For Sale site - mainly because of aging out and not wanting to travel solo. And I really missed the space in the LD.

I once had an RV where I had to take the table down every night to make a bed, I hated it. But that's me. I use my table for puzzles, eating, painting, crafts, so I need a table that is always available.

A good resource for checking out the Basecamp are the Airstream Forums (airforums.com).  You'll be able to specify the Basecamp model, find ads for used ones for sale and see what people have to say about them.

If I were in the market for a trailer, I'd look seriously at the Oliver (olivertraveltrailers.com).  Much better quality.

We've had five airstreams over the years.  The vintage ones were much better quality over the new ones and significantly less expensive!

I put us on waitlist for Escape 23.  It is a new model they are developing that has either twin beds or walk around queen bed. It also has separate dinette.  Didn’t know it existing until you shared it.  Exactly what we want.  Probably a year wait or longer. No pricing yet.

Scamp and Oliver were good too but we wanted sleep for 4. I read AS forums and you are right Jaxon and Andy.  AS Basecamp quality is not there.  Many issues are had. Pricing is very high around $60k plus.  I do like the extra rear door that allows for loading of bikes and kayaks.  Will have to see in person.

I will still keep eye out for LD as we already have a trailblazer we can use as a toad.  I cannot fit in the 24 foot LD so all the others are still in play.   The Escape will require purchase of new truck which may be another adventure.

Thanks everyone!

Is there any outside storage?
Can you add solar panels to the roof later or does the factory have to do it or will that compromise the warranty?
I’m just curious.

Looks like Escape has minimal outside storage that ties into interior areas around bed and dinette areas.  The 23 I am considering has not indicated outside storage yet as it is still being designed. I am on wait list which allows one to enter lottery to buy.  No deposit required.

Here is the options for solar.  Looks like optional panels can be added at purchase.  Not sure about impact of adding later.
Dual 6V Lead-Acid Batteries (include 2 batteries) +$ 245.00
Lithium Ion Batteries - 100Ah (Choose your quantities required below)
Single Battery +$ 1,540.00
Two Batteries +$ 2,430.00
Four Batteries +$ 4,290.00
Lithium Battery Ready (Includes DC-DC charger) +$ 420.00
Inverter 1500W (Includes transfer switch and all outlets) Note: Option requires battery selection or lithium ready +$ 985.00
190W Solar Panel with MPPT Controller Display +$ 895.00
Additional 190W Solar Panel (cannot combine with TV Antenna) +$ 530.00
Prewire for Solar with Roofmount MC4 Connector (not required if solar panel option selected) +$ 222.00
Solar Port wired to Regulator Note: Only if Solar Panel selected +$ 122.00

There are and have been many manufacturers of fiberglass trailers. For exploring them, this forum seems to be the best overall.
The Fiberglass RV Community

We have tagged along with my brother and his Escape to three of the Fiberglass RV SoCal group's fall GTGs at Lake Casitas, in Ventura County. They have at least one day of open house tours, it provides a chance to see a lot of different trailers and talk with many owners about their experiences. Like most RV GTGs, almost everyone is friendly and happy to talk.

Tree fell on a basecamp at Palmetto State Park in Texas.  Due to drought tree was dead inside but not easily seen from observation.  I guess the BC is a well built unit.  Nobody hurt in the accident.  Check trees around ur campsite!

Hmmm . . . think I’d rather take my chances with a used LD.

"Perhaps Thor Industries purchasing Airstream may have lowered the quality?"

I've seen that speculation a number of times. I have no way of knowing whether it's true, but at this point unless one is shopping for a pre-1980 Airstream, it's immaterial--they are what they are. As I've said in the past, the designs and materials are very good, but the workmanship is poor to fair, like most American RVs.
