Los Algodones dentist visit July 12, 2022, 05:58:55 pm In the past several have committed on going to the dentist in Los Algodones BC Mexico. Well today I took the trip and I have to say it was a rather pleasant and pain free experience.Los Algodones is just over the border from Winterheaven, CA. About 5 miles west of Yuma and the AZ/CA border. There’s $6 all day parking on the US side of the US/Mexico border that’s run by the Quechan Indian Tribe. Not at the Indian Casino a mile before, but the lot just before the US/Mexico border, ask me how I know. It’s an easy walk from the border parking lot to the International Border Control Mexico. The Mexican border guards asked to look in the 2 ladies purses in front of me but waved me through since I didn’t have anything in my hands. There are many many dental offices in Los Algodones, too many to count. Each one has a barker out front trying to entice you to their business. The dentist office I made an appointment with was Simply Dental. I had no previous experience with any Mexican dentist but they had a lot of reviews and all good. Plus, they had a large office and an in-house dental lab. The waiting area was clean and the AC worked extremely well. They also had WiFi available which was good since my cell plan doesn’t include roaming in Mexico. My dentist was Fernanda Gutierrez DDS and her dental assistant Melissa. They were both very gentle and explained everything before proceeding. Cleaning, full set of X-rays and exam came to $35. At some point in the future I’m going to need 2 vernier caps replaced but not in this July heat. I’ll come back in 6 months or so to have that done. 2 appointments on consecutive days to replace 2 caps for a total of $700.Returning to the US was almost as easy as going into Mexico. I returned at around 11:30am and there was hardly a line. I would imagine that would not be the case if I had a later appointment. I showed my passport card but one could have used their valid enhanced US drivers license. I had a couple of things that I bought while in Mexico and the CBP officer asked if he could look at the bag. A quick look later and I was on my way to my car… easy peasy.Others may have had a pleasant experience going to a dentist in Mexico, or not. My experience was a good one and I’ll be going back.- John 4 Likes

Re: Los Algodones dentist visit Reply #2 – August 17, 2022, 05:18:35 pm This is a follow up to my original post about Los Algodones dentist. I was in need of replacing 2 front crowns and was going to schedule a visit to Los Algodones in about 6 months when the weather was cooler. But… as timing would have it, I was going to be in the area anyway to pick up a new set of hearing aids and so I scheduled the crown replacements for yesterday and today.Things could not have gone easier. Yesterday morning I parked on the US side and walked over the border and to my appointment. The same dentist I had before did an impression for the temporary crowns and then proceeded to remove the old ones. The next step was quite a surprise to me. Instead of making a traditional impression for the new crowns by sticking a big mold in my mouth, she used a wand and computer program to make a 3D model of my teeth; uppers and lowers. This 3D model was then transferred to the in-house lab where they made the 2 new E-Max crowns. The next day (today) I again parked on the US side and went back to the dentist office. The dentist removed the temporary crown and implanted the 2 new crowns. She made a few adjustments to make sure everything was aligned just right and I was done. $700 for (2) E-Max crowns was the total price. Considering the 2022 average price in the US for E-Max crowns is $1,100-$1,600 per crown, I think I got a good deal.- JohnEdit: Yesterday when I crossed back into the US, the CBP agent gave me a bit of a hard time because I didn’t have my passport and showed him my Real-ID drivers license instead. When asked why I didn’t have a passport, I said that I was renewing it and had to mail it back with my application. He was fine with that explanation. Today when I saw a different CBP agent, I started with my explanation of why I didn’t have my passport and she was fine with it. 1 Likes

Even then, we've sometimes had to wait an hour to make it up to U.S. Customs. Sometimes the line is even longer. 1 Likes

But I’m sure upgrading Los Algodones border crossing is not in the budget.I don’t like waiting in line and always try to get early appointments wherever I go. I got that from by dad, he hated waiting in line. 😠- John 1 Likes
Re: Los Algodones dentist visit Reply #6 – August 18, 2022, 02:05:24 pm Another possibility is Puerto Palomas, across the border from Columbus, New Mexico and Pancho Villa State Park. I had dental work done there in the past. That was ten or so years ago, and I don't know what the situation is like now, but it was easy enough back then: park at the border, walk across, and walk a block and a half into town to the dentist. 1 Likes
