Ford Maverick 2022 Toad? June 05, 2022, 03:32:28 pm Hi everyone!Hope you are all doing well!Hey, has anyone looked at Ford Maverick 2022 Hybrid as a toad? I see the Hybrid is the only option that is flat tow able. There was a previous discussion about this vehicle as a flat tow able but no one followed up with whether or not they got one. I just wondered if anyone did buy one or get further info on it?It looks good to us. Good weight at 3693 lbs per Car and Driver magazine. Saw elsewhere listed as 3731 lbs but still below the recommended 4,000 lbs limit.It is a "full hybrid" meaning you don't have to plug it in YAH! And it gets decent gas mileage.I like that it has some similarities to the old Ford Sports Trac that is now discontinued. I like having a truck bed, but not so huge that you have to back up and down 10 times to get out of a parking place at the grocery store. Anyone get one? Or know someone who did? And it gets decent gas mileage.I talked with a couple in Grand Teton Np who have towed a Maverick for two thousand miles .They reported is tows fine and was averaging over 35 MPG.The downside is limited ground clearance and it’s only available with front wheel drive, AWD is not an option. It looks like a truck but is built on a car chassis.Larry

A listing I see says it has CVT, which in a Nissan is not flat towable, as far as I have read. Maybe Ford's CVT is different? The CVT is the peeve of our current car situation bc we will have to trade our versa note in when the time comes. She's a great car in all other ways. I will likely never go sedan with a trunk again bc the hauling power of a hatchback is bar none!We like small truck or SUV concepts as well. The price point - not so much. LOL.

I love my Ford Escape but it is not towable. I love SUVs but also love the idea of a small compact truck bed with seating inside the cab for us and dogs. If we do get the Maverick in 2023, I wonder if I will miss the SUV with inside storage, but I think we are ready to give it a try. Sadly, they are sold out for this year, so it means waiting until 2023. It seems that the Maverick is turning out to be a very popular model! And maybe a blessing in disguise not being able to get one this year. This is the first year for it, and we got burned by a first year Chevy station wagon (diesel) that was not well constructed. It was an expensive adventure So, let's see how the Maverick fares in the hands of owners in everyday life. Hopefully it will live up to its advertising!

Here's my 2021 Ford Ranger with a SnugTop Rebel topper. The dual Windoors afford easy access from the sides, in addition to the usual lift gate/tailgate access.

Mine has that feature.However, the rear window in the Ford pickups I've owned is only about a foot square, and the Maverick's rear window looks to be even smaller (see attached photo). Even with the topper's front window open (not permissible while driving), it would be very difficult to reach in from the back seat through the tiny Ford window--so awkward that I've never even tried.In short, the limitation isn't the topper; it's the Maverick's tiny rear window. 1 Likes

I was pleasantly surprised by the choices available! Yeah, that little window on the Maverick is WAY too small to much good except as a whiff of fresh air But guess we have to be grateful for small favors! Now just need to get the truck! According to a Lazy Daze owner friend who recently purchased a Maverick, it is not without issues, as is true with most new car models.We’ve been considering replacing our 2018 Wrangler with a new towed. Researching the Ford Bronco and Maverick options, I came across the thread below, on the Bronco forum, dealing with Ford’s Electric Brake Boost system (EBB), which is supplied on the Bronco 2.7L V6 as well as the Maverick Hybrid. The issue is specific to installation of onboard, auxiliary brake assist devices such as RoadMaster’s InvisBrake and Demco’s Stay-In-Play Duo (the preferred auxiliary brake assist device of many Lazy Dazers). Ford’s EBB, in contrast to vacuum assist brake devices, supplies brake force for 30 - 45 minutes and then shuts off. As a result of this timed shut-off, the RoadMaster and Demco brake devices, which are user calibrated to apply enough but not too much brake force, apply either too much or not enough force on the brake pedal depending whether the system is calibrated with the EBB active or “asleep” and when, in use the EBB is awake or asleep. According to the Bronco Forum thread, the issue was raised to Ford some months ago and it seems that there may be a solution in the works. The outcome, according to those Bronco owners using Roadmaster & Demco systems posting on the Bronco forum, is unclear at this time. As far as I can tell, it appears that at this time a “Brake-in-a-box”, eg; Blue Ox Patriot, or the Ready-Brake (mechanical brake assist), are the viable options for these vehicles. I own a 2021 Ranger Lariat and have been happy with it. Ground clearance is 8.9", and I've taken it over many rough roads, although not (yet) as bad as I've seen traveled in Jeeps.(To be clear, I have no intention of towing this behind a Lazy Daze; rather, I'm using it to tow my 19' Airstream trailer. But I know people who are towing older Jeeps behind class Cs, and I was wondering whether this could be an alternative when it comes time to replace a Jeep.) 1 Likes

And, according to Ford, the Ranger 4x4 can be flat towed, in contrast to the Maverick where only the hybrid 2 wheel drive model can be flat towed (see attached page from Ford’s 2023 Truck towing guide). As Larry rightly points out, it’s hard to beat a Jeep Wrangler for off road capability and fun! A small, 4x4 pickup does have some utilitarian appeal, and enough off road capability for many applications, however.Warren 1 Likes
Re: Ford Maverick 2022 Toad? Reply #24 – January 14, 2023, 04:33:43 pm After waiting 13 months, we finally got our maverick hybrid lariat. It drives very nicely and we are getting 45 mpg in town. The brake issue occurs when slowing down gently (to maximize mileage), the vehicle uses primarily regen. You can slow all the way to a stop via regen only, but when below 6 mph, the transition from regen to hydraulic brakes can be abrupt. It doesnt bother me because I have learned how to modulate the pedal. But it can be concerning. Ford has received enough complaints that they are working on a fix which involves reprogramming the braking module. Overall it is a nice vehicle, obviously built to a price point. Right now the order books are closed for 2023. Supposedly Ford has an awd hybrid version in the works for 2024. 5 Likes
