Ford Driver Assist package on a Lazy Daze questions.
I realize this is a very VERY narrow set of folks here.

I’ll admit, I am a spoiled brat when it comes to driving automation.  I have had the Ford Driver Assist package on my 2017 Ford Fusion and it’s a game changer on long road trips.  Missed it on the 800 mile drive home, especially the adaptive cruise control and blind spot warnings.

My 2017 TK dashboard looks just like the other E450s I drove 13-18 years ago, very old school and very few bells/whistles.

For those that have Ford Driver Assist package on their new Lazy Daze, are the photos below accurate?

How well does the the adaptive cruise and blind spot detection work on a Lazy Daze?

Need to decide if my new to me 2017 TK is still just placeholder, or at less than 8000 miles, perhaps it’s new enough not to bother with a 2023, lose the fancy assist features and I’ll proceed with upgrades.   Don’t really have the option to wait a couple years to see if I get a new one before doing the upgrades.   Doesn’t help that in the back of my mind, besides fears of LD not surviving the chassis shortages, I wonder if the quality will still be there even if the mothership makes it.

The available driver assist features on a 2023 Ford E450 as shown on the Ford web site are here:

Blind spot monitoring is not listed as an available feature.

Good catch!

I just assumed that it would be there with the rest, guess it’s just too hard to add it for a vehicle you don’t know the ultimate length of.

That does tip things closer to not bothering with a new 2023 LD as I can add blind spot detectors aftermarket.

If there was an aftermarket adaptive cruise control I’d be set.  Sure could have used it instead of constantly tweaking the regular cruise control to match a truck I am following.

Adaptive cruise control is a nice feature and was the main reason I was holding out for the driver assist features when I was previously on the list. However, I’ve found since buying Nocona that I tend to be one of the slowest rigs on the road anyway, letting the trucks whiz past me! 😉👍

Hi Dave!

Congrats on the beautiful rig!

We have all that tech on our cars (with the exception of my old Pontiac I keep around since it refuses to break). We consider adaptive cruise to be an ABSOLUTE requirement and have passed on vehicles because adaptive cruise wasn’t even available trim we wanted (Suburban/Yukon). It’s been on all of our vehicles bought since 2016.

**BUT……

I thought I would miss not having it on our 2003 RB. We just completed its approx 2500 mile maiden voyage (it’s new-to-us). I didn’t miss adaptive cruise. At all.

It just wouldn’t have been that much help, and there was never a moment when I wasn’t completely satisfied with the regular Ford cruise (it works really well, and the ease with which one can change the set speed in 1 MPH increments probably helped).

Dave, that’s just my experience, I hope that’s helpful. Yours could understandably be very different.

Thanks for the perspectives on adaptive cruise and an RV.

Both of my cars purchased after 2016 have had adaptive cruise, inspired when I borrowed at Tesla in 2014, I just won’t buy another car without it, such a game changer in stop and go commutes.

I did relearn old cruise control tricks on my 800 mile drive home, which helped somewhat, except for two annoying trucks that kept varying their speed a bunch.  But I take solace that both instances were on the interstate which I generally don’t take.

I was very much looking forward to a chassis with all the bells and whistles, but maybe I should get over my desire for them, and just add on a blind spot detection, which Paul pointed out I wasn’t getting anyway.

I still like the features, but they are not as robust as on a car.  There is no blind spot or rear cross traffic monitoring, which would be really nice to have.  Scroll through that thread for my posts and you'll see the features I have found and my assessments.

I find the rear cross traffic alert valuable as well.  It’s saved our bacon more than once in our Subaru Outback!

We love the driver assist package. The rear cross traffic warning would be really nice on an RV but not going to happen as Ford doesn’t make the coach and the cameras would be there instead of on the chassis. When we went on the list in March of 2019 I was planning on a 2020 delivery with what I thought would be the final year of the V10. I was apprehensive about getting the new chassis but now I am really glad we got it.

Thanks Linda, I had forgotten about your excellent run down of the driver assist features two years ago, but then again 2020 seems like a lifetime ago.

I actually love auto high beams on my Ford Fusion, but it’s not meaningful on an RV for me as I am doing something wrong if I drive enough at night to use it.

Love the Ford Driver assist package as well.  Makes me feel safer on the road as there is another set of "electronic eyes" monitoring the traffic ahead. 

The adaptive cruise control is great - love it on all my vehicles great and small. 

The vehicle monitoring options are nice too, including built-in TPMS.

Also have been impressed with the gas mileage of the new V8 compared to my friend's V10 on his rig.
