I would call Todd and ask him any possible phone numbers (cell phones, business numbers. etc.) one might expect a call from when the time comes. Then add all the possible numbers to the Lazy Daze contact in your phone.  If you get the call from any of those numbers, "Lazy Daze" should pop up.

I agree this is a good hedge against missing 'the call'. I'd also confirm that the contact number they have is correct, just in case.

My guess is that plans to cease production are largely in place.   The final units to be built are being chosen for various reasons and don't necessarily follow the waiting list closely.  Guess #2 - it is possible that the repair part of the business brings in significant income and building a minimal number of units a year becomes becomes a "sideline" that the owner may, for now, be content with .   I'm assuming the LD balance sheet is very clean - minimal if any debt.  This all depends on the owner's desires which are not known.   He may be ready to retire....    or not.

I'm making the assumption that Ford will not make a greater number of trucks available to LD in the foreseeable future.   The trickle will continue which is not, in my opinion, an ethical way for Ford to do business.   Ford should contact LD and work out a minimal number of units they need per year to keep their doors open.   I think I'll give a call to that Ford CEO....and give him quick course in business ethics!

The Ford Motor Company has no relationship with LD.    LD is not large enough to order direct.  Ford has regional mangers that wholesale thru distributors.    Those distributors then sell direct to priory customers.  Then retailers stand inline depending on the amount of 'units' they can/will buy.   LD is, I'm guessing, on the back of the line.   One or two units a months is not a large priory order on/at any point of this stream.

In my college years I worked as a sales trainer for selling Heavy and Medium duty trucks.   We dealt directly with the truck departments of Ford, GM, and other lesser known truck manufacturers from around the world.

I recall reading some time ago (pre-COVID) that LD was ordering the Ford Cutaway chassis in lots of 25 each through a Ford Commercial Vehicle dealer. Anyone know what they are doing now?

I spoke with Todd at the LD Mothership, and due to Covid, LD cannot obtain parts. I have discovered the same is true for most car dealerships in Tucson, Arizona.

Covid has destroyed a lot in the world.

Hopefully, LD will continue to produce more new builds in the future.

This is our story about purchasing a new LD:

On March 2, 2020 we went to the plant to observe the showroom models.  We liked the 24' TK and put our name on the "waiting list" for that model.  Then, the pandemic hit and we didn't know what to expect.  Soon after, Todd called and told us that they were selling the 2020 showroom models and offered us the 24' TK that we had checked out.  We declined the offer and said that we would wait for a new one set up with our desired options.  In April of 2021, Todd called and said that we were next on the list and asked if we were still interested.  We definitely were interested and signed the contract with our list of options for a 2022 24' TK.  He told us that they had our chassis in stock, and the estimated delivery was September/October 2021.  In October, we called and asked for the status, and were told the new estimated delivery was November, 2021.  We called in Nov. and were told the new estimate was December, 2021.
We didn't call over the holidays, and then in early January, 2022, we got the call. We were told that our unit would be available on Jan. 27,2022.  We decided to not pay the California sales tax and arranged for a transport to drive it to the Arizona state line.  We were told that because of Covid, we would have to pick it up in Ehrenburg, AZ instead of coming into the office for a demonstration and signing of paperwork.  We agreed, and arranged for them to winterize the water system.  We drove it home and checked out all of the systems except water and put it in storage.  Everything worked fine, but we will have to wait for Spring to do a thorough evaluation. We are very happy with our purchase, and how we were treated by LD.

Hi Dave & Kate!

Congratulations on your new TK!

Your story is a bit encouraging, as I got on the list four months after you, suggesting there is still hope for this year, depending on how many people got on the list in 2020.   Also that they are still building new rigs.

What options did you go with, and what special requests if any?

All very encouraging!

Dave,
Our options were:
Backup camera
Driver assist package
Heated/power cab mirrors
2nd solar panel
House battery disconnect switch

We had no special requests.  I believe that we were fortunate that our chassis was in stock.

I worry about the list because I got on the list in Feb 2020, yet others have been contacted by the mothership that they are next in line. I want a 31' LD and I'm concerned that they don't like building the 31's, so I'm not getting the call. Maybe with all the Covid related delays it is easier to build the 24s and 27s.

I'm still hoping I will get the call this year, but I'm also looking at other options; keep what I have or move to another brand.

Dave and Kate, if you don't mind sharing, I'd love to see some pictures of the inside to see what the latest LDs look like.
Have an awesome day!

Hi Dan;  The problem with the 31 foot LD is that LD farms out the lengthening of the frame to another company.  That slows things down a lot since they have to have the frame first. I don't know who that company is, whether they are even still in business, or what their timetable is.  I hope that you get your motorhome soon.  I still might consider getting on the list for a MB.  RonB

Ron, what’s to consider? Just do it! You can always decline when you get the call and make someone else happy.  :D   Have they reopened the list?

I am back in Australia now and my excellent 2000 LD, 23ft rear bath with Ford V-10 is in Storage in Las Vegas Nevada until I return in June for the WSOP   However, a few months ago, I thought I would sell it but never advertised it anywhere except mentioning it here on the Forum. I got one wannabee call but thats it. So I put it in storage and came back to OZ.  I am 80 yrs old and not sure about how much more LD travel although I drove it to Chicago last October and back to Vegas and down to Phoenix, staying at the Riverside Casino on the Colorado  river in Loughlin, NV.  A great place to free camp, then moved  one night every two weeks in the nice RV park to dump/fill up etc.  Met a lot of Canadians!  I love my LD, my fourth one; bought a brand new 1996 twin rear couch 26 on a Ford 460 from ED. Was living in Hawaii then.  Came to see ED, gave him $5000 cash and came back three months later finished.  Big change from the 30 months now.  LD is the BEST Class C made...period.  I brought a 1986 LD over to Australia  seven years ago. Just put it on a boat in LA etc. In fact I am taking her on a trip next weekend.
So after this short note ,( I talk too much as I get older...sorry.)   if someone on the waiting list wants to buy a great LD as an interim while waiting for their new one from Steve AND  find out more about my LD you can Email me at .....hank_87us@yahoo.com.
I would be asking $23,000.  Brand new tires, engine and tranny are great. drives like a dream. 120 hours on genny. new 200 watt solar panel plus mothership installed panel. Just totally tapped  (Etherbond) the roof. Color; red & white. Sincerely, Hank Hannigan

Hi Greg;  Well my 22 year old 'TK isn't worn out yet; just looking a bit worse for wear.  It has been out in the sun and time takes its toll.  I guess that applies to me too!  I always wanted a MB, and my screen saver is your Nocona.
Then again, I'm pretty used to driving the E350, and it is short and easier to handle.   All a moot point until the list opens up again.   RonB   I'll miss seeing you at this years MBGT.

On March 2, 2020 on our way home from the NASCAR races in Fontana we stopped at Lazy Daze RV in Montclair.  After about 2 hours of talking to Todd & thoroughly looking over the floor model we put our name on the list (apparently the same day as Dave & Kate), & went home to wait for the phone call.  It must have been bad timing on our part, because although Dave & Kate are enjoying their new Lazy Daze, (who we are happy for) we have yet to receive a call.  This pandemic has not only put a strain on our daily lives, but on most businesses as well.  We can only hope for the call!

I just spoke to the factory to check the status of our LD on order.  We ordered around June 2020 (very rough).

The factory said no LDs shipped this year at all - the wait list is sitting still.

Supply line issues with chips and more parts.  They said even worse now than last year.

Same problems with all vehicles.
We bought a used car in May 2021 - at that time chips were starting to become difficult to get which was starting to significantly affect new car availability.  And used cars prices were rising because new cars were much harder to obtain.
I just checked and for the car we bought, KBB prices went up at least 25% for our car, even though it is older and has more mileage on it then when we bought it.  That is huge for less than a years time.

If history is any gauge it’s going to take a few years for these sort of things to work it’s way out of the system.

during the state of the union address President Biden stated that US will invest in made in America and if my memory is any correct he specifically mentioned chip shortages but I am getting old and so is memory ... but if my memory is correct and administration is focused (they should be seeing what is happening in China and other countries along with all supply chain issues) it will be about a year for the facility up and running and eighteen months before we see issue start getting better. i did not research but it will not be difficult to see if couple of giant size chip fabrication building are coming up. i also remember seeing some coverage of intel (not sure why amd was not invited) chairman and President Biden photo opp in White House recently.

related to newer LD, as most of us already know new chassis has safety recall and based on Mike C. experience and subsequent comments by Larry W., i took it seriously and arrange for oil change and this recall fix appointment during last trip and took the LD to dealer day after i reach home. tech did not take recall seriously and told me that most probably they will simply check it and nothing will be changed. this was almost a week ago, LD is still with the dealer and they are waiting for the parts to fix the recall issue. just fyi ... if you are in this situation, recall parts may take long to arrive to the dealer. in the mean time i hope LD (our baby) is safe in the dealership, they assured me that it is tucked away well but i rather have it in her shelter in my backyard.

i feel sorry for the folks in the line, i was in the same situation no in distant past. i do not have any experience with other brand but stories i hear in the campground from other brand owners tell me that this wait is well worth it.

I've  come to terms with likely not getting an LD. I'm nearing retirement and I can't afford to buy a new LD a year or two out. Change of direction, I've got my eye on the new Toyota Tundra TRD Pro Hybrid and going back to a towable, Northwood Arctic Fox. I had a Northwood Desert Fox fifth wheel for 10 years, they make an excellent product, and it looks like they still do.

The Tundra TRD Pro will still give me the off road capability I want and the Arctic Fox trailer will fill the gaps in feature/functionality I have with my present Phoenix Cruiser motorhome. For now my current motorhome will work, not a good time to buy an new truck (supply and pricing issues). We don't know what the future holds, so have to take it day by day and we willing to change direction if needed.
Have an awesome day!
