clogged toilet 30' IB
This is my first post so sorry if it's in the wrong place! I've been in my 2000 30' IB since march and for the first time am facing a clogged toilet (felt like about 1/3 of the tank emptied but now I've got standing water visible in the pipe below the ball valve). Any suggestions? My search has turned up mainly solutions to do before this happens, but nothing for after the fact. I'd appreciate any help!

Kevin, welcome to the Lazy Daze Owners' Forum.

I had the same experience in my '02 30' from using too much TP without flushing. I could see water in the pipe below the ball. First, make sure your black holding tank is not full. I filled the toilet bowl to the top with water and let it sit. Eventually the pressure from the full bowl pushed the clog through. Not saying this will work for you. It did for me. Also, using a drill with a short snake on it should work.

You may have a toilet paper pyramid, it can be cleared using a hose-mounted flushing wand, inserting it through the top of the toilet, and then turning the hose on and using the directed spray to break up the pile.

Thanks Chris and Larry for quick responses! I've put some water in the bowl and I'll let it sit awhile to see. Larry, I know I read some where that the layout of the 30' has a turn in the pipe that makes the flushing wand not usable. Is this true or can I at least use it to try to clear that elbow which may be where the clog is?

“Outhouse syndrome” can be caused by several poor toilet practices, but one common cause is leaving the black tank valve open when hooked up to a sewer dump receptacle; liquids flow; solids do not.  :(

I have not experienced the 'joys' described above.
I have this Camco Flexible Sprayer
which follows the bends into the tank.  It may help loosen and push the obstruction into the tank.

It can probably be found in most RV stores or RV sections of Walmart-type places.  I just pulled the description off Amazon.
Good Luck

The spraying wand seems like a good idea, but I've always wondered how people store them. I mean, it's several feet long and you're shoving it down into your black tank... so after use, it's both awkward and filthy. What do you folks do to keep it from dripping nasty stuff or smelling up the place? Seems as if a scabbard of some sort would be a good idea...

For my part,  I bought a long low crate to hold 2 sewer hoses with connectors.   The first wand barely fit on the crate, and the sharp crimp to stuff it in shortened its life.  I cut a chunk out of the white tube that is basically 1/2" schedule 40 irrigation pipe.  Simple connector put it back together again and the bend is less sharp.

YMMV

“The spraying wand seems like a good idea, but I've always wondered how people store them.“

We use the Camco flexible spray wand for our MidBath - necessary because the toilet sits over the wheel well while the black tank is behind the wheel well so a straight wand will not work. We store the wand in a disposable Umbrella Cover, inside the storage locker we dedicated to holding tank equipment.

A while back, I was using the Camco tank rinser on our MB but then noticed the tip (the spinning part) had sheared off.  It’s somewhere inside the tank now but I haven’t noticed any problems to date.  Didn’t have a storage bag for the old one, instead would just rinse it off after use and toss it into the dedicated outside storage compartment (forward, driver’s side). I like the idea of the umbrella bag so may order one when I order the replacement rinser.

Odds are the first time the tank is dumped, the spinner will exit and go down the drain.

We were at an RV park, many years ago, where the access hatch to the spetic tank was open. The crew was dragging out multitple sewer hoses that has slipped and fallen into the tank. Talking with them, I was told they removed all sorts of items that fall in, using a big vacuum truck with a long arm, what is sometimes call a Super Sucker.

Greg,

Years ago I had the spinner from a camco flushing wand come off in my black tank. Later the part came out (I use a clear elbowed Flush King to monitor the cleaner effluent flow while dumping the black/gray tanks.

Our RB toilet has a clear view of the black tank so a standard garden spray nozzle works well for me. I’ve ditched the spinning head wand in favour of the standard wand or garden hose set up. When camping I don’t back flush the tank much. I do that at home.

Good luck,

Yeras ago, Airstream WALLY B said to remove outside hose from dump station, lift it up  and fill it with water and then swing it upward so the water will go back into the tank and break the clog at the exit point.  So fill the sewer hose best u can then lift it up quickly to break the clog at the flapper valve.  Good luck.
Cheers.
