Resealing non leaking windows
My question is on resealing the windows. Checking on the Lazy Daze Companion it looks like you have to take the windows out to reseal. I don’t have any leaks (that I’m aware of) just wanting to make sure the windows are sealed properly. Thought you reapplied sealant like the roof. Any guidance on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Removing a window is a big job and isn't usually needed, just the perimeter of window is what is usually needs sealing.
After cleaning the gap betweeen the frame and body, tape off the the window frame and body and use a polyurethane sealant to fill the seam where the Factory selant has shrink, becoming concave.

Hi Larry

Thank you, thank you! Removing the windows was something I was not looking forward to plus probably beyond my abilities.

3M 5200 Fast Cure or 5200 (slow cure) is not available in California anymore due to one of its ingredients being carcinogenic.
It’s a recent development and I’m looking for my next polyurethane sealant/adhesive and hope 3M reformulated the 5200’s formula to eliminate problem chemical.
It still appears to be available in the other 49 states.

Loctite sells a marine-grade sealant that may be a good replacement. I will be trying it soon on an upcoming project.

Resealing with the 5200 I can handle.

I don't see 5200 fast cure on black, but do see 4200 fast cure on black at least in Amazon...

Anyone has any preference between 5200 or 4200 for window trim reseal?

Also black or white?

I ususally use white, most of the window frames are surrounded by white paint. I have tried many sealants over the last 50 years and 3M 5200 is a better sealant, compared to 3M 4200 or any other commonly available sealant//adhesive.

Unfortunately, I’m unable to find any source of 3M 4200 or 5200 that will ship to California. It’s now a banned product here.
It may be time for an our of state trip.

I was successful at getting 5200 Fast Cure from westmarine.com. Arrived last week. I didn’t compare the price to Amazon but with shipping it’s more costly, I’m sure.

Nikki, that's interesting! I did try West Marine and got a "can't ship" notice, and I didn't find any source in or out of CA that would ship the product. (Home Depot and Lowes occasionally have the 10 oz. cartridge in the store, but I want the 3 oz. tubes.) What's your secret?  ;)

Hi Joan. Didn’t realize I had a secret method for ordering from West Marine. I just tried again and it appeared to be successful. Would you like me to order some for you?

Thanks, Nikki! I just ordered two 3 oz. tubes from West Marine. Yes, a lot pricier than Amazon, but that's a moot point! No idea why they rejected my order before, and no idea why West  Marine (unless it's being shipped from the Santa Cruz store?) can ship and other sources can't.

How strange, a few days ago, I tried ordering 3M 5200 FC from Amazon, West Marine and another marine store, all refused the order, indicating that they would not ship 3M 5200 to California.
Just now, West Marine accepted my order, we’ll see what, is anything shows up.

Exactly my experience, Larry! However innocuous, just another of life's many imponderables!  ;)

My question is on resealing the windows…Any guidance on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

We finished resealing the windows in our 2009 MB this morning for the same reason as mentioned by the OP.   I used Loctite PL Polyurethane Sealant (white).  As most of the neighborhood knows, this is the same sealant used by the Factory on the roof for many years.   As already mentioned, masking tape was my best friend on this project.

We are very pleased with the results in addition to knowing that water 💦 isn’t coming through our windows for a very long time.
