Resealing non leaking windows January 12, 2022, 07:56:43 pm My question is on resealing the windows. Checking on the Lazy Daze Companion it looks like you have to take the windows out to reseal. I don’t have any leaks (that I’m aware of) just wanting to make sure the windows are sealed properly. Thought you reapplied sealant like the roof. Any guidance on this matter would be greatly appreciated. 1 Likes
Re: Resealing non leaking windows Reply #1 – January 13, 2022, 01:39:22 am Removing a window is a big job and isn't usually needed, just the perimeter of window is what is usually needs sealing. After cleaning the gap betweeen the frame and body, tape off the the window frame and body and use a polyurethane sealant to fill the seam where the Factory selant has shrink, becoming concave.Window and seam sealing | FlickrLarry 1 Likes

Re: Resealing non leaking windows Reply #3 – January 13, 2022, 12:27:23 pm 3M 5200 Fast Cure or 5200 (slow cure) is not available in California anymore due to one of its ingredients being carcinogenic.It’s a recent development and I’m looking for my next polyurethane sealant/adhesive and hope 3M reformulated the 5200’s formula to eliminate problem chemical.It still appears to be available in the other 49 states.Loctite sells a marine-grade sealant that may be a good replacement. I have tried many sealants over the last 50 years and 3M 5200 is a better sealant, compared to 3M 4200 or any other commonly available sealant//adhesive.Unfortunately, I’m unable to find any source of 3M 4200 or 5200 that will ship to California. I did try West Marine and got a "can't ship" notice, and I didn't find any source in or out of CA that would ship the product. (Home Depot and Lowes occasionally have the 10 oz. cartridge in the store, but I want the 3 oz. tubes.) What's your secret?

No idea why they rejected my order before, and no idea why West Marine (unless it's being shipped from the Santa Cruz store?) can ship and other sources can't. 1 Likes

I used Loctite PL Polyurethane Sealant (white). As most of the neighborhood knows, this is the same sealant used by the Factory on the roof for many years. As already mentioned, masking tape was my best friend on this project. We are very pleased with the results in addition to knowing that water 💦 isn’t coming through our windows for a very long time. 3 Likes
