Huh I’ve never heard of the Fumoto drain valve. Think I’ll pick one up!

I first heard about them on the Subaru forums as many of the members there change their own oil.  Since I haven’t been changing my own oil on the Forester and Outback, I haven’t installed a Fumoto on them yet.

Fumoto valves make oil changes much cleaner and simpler, now to eliminate the oil filer mess.
I appreciate that Subaru has located their oil filters on top of the engine, sitting a tray to catch any drippings.
Our jeep has a similar oil filter arrangement, it's getting a Fumoto next oil change.

My daily driver is a Tesla Model Y. With free charging stations at my job and zero maintenance, I am happy I only need to deal with oil changes on my LD.

Agreed, the oil filter is a messy swap out. Victoria, which Fumoto model did you happen to get? The adjustable one which I believe is F106SX? It looks as though it doesn't create an issue with ground clearance since it comes off the side of the oil drain hole.

Joe, the valve does hang down perhaps 2” at approximately a 45 degree angle below the oil pan but it’s not the low hanging fruit (see photo). The transmission oil pan/support is lower so it shouldn’t be a problem, unless perhaps if you're 4-wheeling in the LD.   :o   I purchased the F106SX M14-1.5 valve directly from Fumoto:  Fumoto® SX Series Oil Drain Valves

Thanks so much for the visual! I ordered the same model through Amazon so it should be here tomorrow. Will certainly make things a bit easier!

Make sure to get the drain hose.

Just changed the oil after 4K miles. Decided to do it a bit early since we were towing our last trip. This was the first time changing it since installing the Fumoto valve and it certainly makes the job a little easier!  I need to resupply my filter stock and we recently had a discussion about the best brands of filters to use.  Can someone direct me to it?

Need to do the generator next.  Wonder if a Fumoto can be installed on it?

For oil filters, I only use Motorcraft.

I use Wix but I'm guessing Motorcraft would be a good choice too.

I always used the OEM Motorcraft FL280S, the manual-recommended oil filter for my 2003. (Motorcraft oil filters are made by Purolator, AFAIK.)

Bosch also makes a high quality filter.
