Yours is the very first post that I can remember requesting replacement of the shower! I am unaware if it's ever been done and in fact would not advise it. Where would you obtain that replacement? I doubt if even the factory would have one of that vintage.

The "step up" was designed that way to be used as a tub for those who want a whole body soak, or for trail weary feet or small children and even pets. You can even wash your hair by leaning over the 'step up'.  :o

Expect to inflict a lot of collateral damage when you remove the old shower, LD installed the shower with no intention of it ever being removed.
Acquiring a replacement is going to be a challenge, they were custom produced for LD, I doubt if the units used today are the same ones used 26 years ago. You may get lucky and find a prefabricated shower enclosure that would fit.

What is so wrong that it needs replacement? The surface can be refinished, either as a DIY project or professionally.
Let us know how this turns out if you go ahead with this project.

I carry a small folding step in the shower. I have no trouble stepping into the shower but it’s a big step down from inside. That’s where the step comes in. 🤪😊

I can’t help you with modifying the shower to get rid of the step but I can tell you my experience with a stepless shower in an RV.

My late wife had MS and as time went on it became more difficult to enjoy camping and RVing that we loved so much.  When she got to the point of using a wheelchair full time we sold the RV we had and bought a Class-A that was designed and built for handicap/wheelchair access.  One of the design features was a walk-in (stepless) shower.  Now understand, we had a walk-in shower built in the house.  It was huge and you could easily roll in and maneuver around without any problem.  But in the RV that was impossible.  She could either roll in backwards and have her feet hang out or roll in forward and have her knees smashed against the shower wall.  What we found worked was a shower chair with a seating turntable placed on top.  I could get her transferred to the shower chair and swing her legs over and in position.  This worked great except that the 1/2 inch lip on the shower floor where the step should have been, was insufficient to hold back the flowing water.  So before turning on the water, I’d have to roll up towels and place them on the floor in an effort to hold back the water.

I don’t know your circumstance, but based on past experience I’d strongly discourage you from installing a stepless shower in an RV.  The seating turntable was purchased at a handicap supply store but could probably be bought online.  We used that turntable in many situations like transferring to a rental car or to a restaurant seat where space was tight.  There are other aids that could help you with whatever your circumstances are, but IMO a stepless shower in the RV is not one of them.

Best of luck,

If a lower shower step is wanted, modifying the existing one might be a better choice and would avoid all the damage and reconstruction.

I agree with Larry. Just keep the cut out several inches above the floor and seal and protect the new opening from water intrusion.

I’m no expert but it sure sounds better than destroying your LD. They don’t like to be disassembled too much.

Good luck.
