Window Gaskets July 29, 2021, 07:04:47 pm Hello, first time poster here! I recently bought an 89 22’ RB to fix up and full time in. I am having trouble getting new gaskets into my window frames, and I’m sure they’re the right size. Upon advice from an RV service man I am probably just going to silicone the window frame where the gaskets go. My question is this: I am not sure if there were originally gaskets on both sides of sliding windows, or just the side that doesn’t move. If it’s just on the one side, would anything need to be done to the side that moves in order to properly weather seal it? If I have to put silicone on both sides of the window, I won’t be able to open it, so I’m hoping that’s not the case. Any advice is appreciated, thank you! -Laysha

Re: Window Gaskets Reply #2 – July 31, 2021, 10:00:29 am Silicone is the last thing you'd ever use on the exterior of an RV, I sure hope you haven't taken his advice yet.Research this some more and see if butyl tape would be the best option, possibly with a bead of polyurethane sealant around the upper and side edges of the frame.Hope Larry W jumps in on this one.Steve

If an "RV tech' told me to used silicone, I would find another tech, that's bad advice.Larry 3 Likes
