Thank you, Steve. The fellow LDMB owner who has installed the WH6-GA Dometic unit says it it is snug but fits. Do you know if the 2005 Mid Bath has a bigger cutout than ours (2001 26.5' RB)?

I doubt it. Our '83 had a pilot-type and '04 is pilotless, but otherwise the heaters have the same dimensions, and fit the same door. Apparently Dometic sells optional brackets to secure their new heater, but the exhaust port of the new door is centered, as opposed to off to the left. I think the new door will also leave a gap on the sides, and will not be painted to match. The insulation cover of the new one is also inferior to the molded foam of your unit. You CAN still get an original replacement (or tank), which can use your same door, as per my link and others. Price is higher - but for a reason, and you won't have to do a lot of conversion work, redo the gas plumbing, and put up with inferior likely performance.

The only reason I can see for that recommendation is because they no longer manufacture a drop-in replacement. I have no doubt that model will not fit the cutout and your LD compartment door will not fit. Get return privileges. You can either get a replacement tank as Jon suggested, or a complete new exact-fit unit as I posted above.

You are correct, Steve. The Dometic WH6-GA does not fit my space in the 2001 RB due to the location of the control panel. I have to find a WH that is 12" H X 15" W X 20" Deep. After checking dimensions of offered options above, I may have to go tankless. Any thoughts? Thank you.

I have a good friend that has an off grid cabin at the lake. He replaced his leaky 20 yr. old forty gallon LP water heater with the tankless water heater linked to below. He told me that it is well made and works great.
