Anybody now how to work on a Fiamma awning?

Hi everyone,

We're finally back to our RV ("Thistle Dew Too") and trying to get her ready for a enjoyable meander from NV back to NH via some follow-our-nose northern route.

We're at my BIL's home and I'm taking a few days to get things ship shape before we hit the road.

So far my biggest victory was correcting a leak with the water pump, and I decided to turn around the pump to make it easier should I need to work on it in the future. Yay, it seem to work

So here is the reason for this post. I damaged my awning when an unseen dangling steel cable from a telephone pole caught the leading edge of my closed awning while I was pulling out of a parking spot. I stopped right away, but I had already damaged the right end cap of my F45Plus Fiamma awning (on a 2000 Mid-Bath). The awning still works, but there is a hole on the leading edge due to broken plastic end cap, and that lets in water and debris while driving, and bees to nest in the awning while parked. So I purchased a replacement part from Fiamma and am trying to install it, but am not sure how things are hooked up inside. I've seen their parts list, but have no instructions on disassembly or reassembly, and the parts diagram doesn't show the connectors (screws, rivets, etc).

The piece I am trying to replace is 3rd in from the right # 98655-959 R (called the Right End Cap). I had access to one screw from the inside of this part and was able to remove that. But I also see what look like a couple of rivets (?) through the plastic.

I've already removed the end cover #02741-01, which was held on by plastic tabs.

And I've removed two metric hex screws that hold the awning crank assembly together from the top (not seen in the part # 98655-153*), but that did not actually separate the pieces -- they are still held together (though a little looser without the screws).

That's as far as I've gotten. I spoke briefly with Fiamma tech support, so I'm aware there is a spring on both ends. I've put a strap on the end I'm working on, just in case. I've opened up the awning slightly (left side only moved) which seemed to reduce the spring tension on the right side. But now I feel stuck.

My request for the group: Anyone have insight as to how this part of the awning is assembled? And if you have tips or guidance for how I might proceed, that would be wonderful. Finally, if you don't think this is something a DIYer should attempt to do, I welcome that reality check as well.

Oh well, since Fiamma is closed up for the long weekend, I thought I'd check in with my LD folks and see if someone (Larry?, anyone?) might be able to offer some wise counsel.
