Another Catalytic Converter Anti-theft Device
I didn't want to pollute HiLola's thread but wanted to get everyone's (anyone's) opinion on this Cat Clamp device. It seems to have 360-degree protection all around the converter for about the same price as the Cat Strap (without the alarm).

I think I should get one for my LD and my Jeep, though I'm wondering if a skid plate would work for the Jeep.

My muffler shop guy who worked on my sequoia repair yesterday mentioned using the cables like you’re considering. He really was impressed with the Cat Strap system I use.

Cables may be very strong but in the world of bike security the ones for bikes are easily cut with hand held cable cutters. As hard as the thieves worked to defeat my Cat Strap and failed, I have my doubts that a dedicated cat thief would be deterred by a bunch of cables.

Too bad vehicle manufacturers don’t secure the cats better. Maybe in a perfect world.

P.S. The fact that the latest Cat Strap system can have the Cats Eye motion sensor which sets off the banshee alarm while someone is under your vehicle is a great option for the price. 2 cents worth opinion at no extra cost 😺

That is a very good point Kent since I've had several bikes stolen. Thanks for your input!

I'll always remember being stationed in the Philippines back in '64 to '66, U.S. Naval Radio Station - Tarlac. Heard about one guy off-base who got his garden hose stolen at night. Tied a few treble fish hooks around the hose end at the bib. There was a lot of screaming and blood when they tried to take the new hose. (Note that I am not recommending this!)

What surprises me is that the thieves do not just move on to the next one when they see a deterrent such as a cat strap or clamp.  So discouraging!

Wonder if Cat Clamp rattles when driving which would rattle me.  Hate rattling, pinging, of anything while driving.  That's what I loved when I test drove the LD ten years ago but have found jiggling ever so often and track it down to tape it.  Just me and quirks.

Good to be back, and thanks for the welcome!
No, I sold the glider about 4 months ago, and my Mooney 201 airplane as well. Medical issues (of the non-terminal type) prevent me from staying in the air for hours at a time. I'm keeping my Husky A1-B bush plane though! Replacing the airplanes with a UAT, Honda Pioneer 1000-5 SE.

Interesting solution .......
"A bill in the Oregon Legislature, backed by Multnomah County District Attorney Mike Schmidt, aims to make life more difficult for poachers of the valuable car part by prohibiting scrap-metal businesses from purchasing or receiving catalytic converters “except from the commercial seller or owner of the vehicle from which the catalytic converter was removed.”

The problem with that law is the thieves 'refine' the rare earth alloys by removing the chemicals from the ceramic pellets.  Both the pellets and carcasses of the converters are left behind, and never see a 'junk yard'.  RonB
