Dually tires on the new rig
So it looks to me that the tire covers will need to be removed in order to get to the valves?

I tried checking the outer tire pressure but the cover interferes with the angle needed for the gauge and ultimately the fill nozzle to seat squarely.

Anyone else experience this?

Hi Ted.  The Borg long valve stems extend out farther to make it easier to inflate the duals.  I use these on the front tires; https://www.etrailer.com/Tire-Inflation-and-Repair/Wheel-Masters/WM8029.html?feed=npn&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=Google%20%7C%20Shop%20-%20Tire%20Inflation%20and%20Repair&adgroupid=99922300026&campaignid=1593570911&creative=431609811494&device=c&devicemodel=&feeditemid=&keyword=&loc_interest_ms=&loc_physical_ms=9031352&matchtype=&network=g&placement=&position=&gclid=CjwKCAjwv_iEBhASEiwARoemvFyEA_jluzj8OnOsEyOmRcNLoUkOmWWNAmBq6RGmYZL-LttS0etKjRoCOEoQAvD_BwE
but Discount Tires still managed to ruin one, and broke off the stem itself. They replaced the stem with a similar one. Luckily I had a spare new extender at home. I put it on when I got home. They had installed a cap for me. Too bad they didn't include a schrader valve core with the new stem. Fortunately I had one of those too. Hard to get on with the tire deflating.

Ted,

When we brought our ‘15 RB home from the Mothership, I had the same issues that you mention. I called “Your Tire Shop Supply” and placed my order for the Borg Valve Stems. Your Tire Shop Supply | Supplies for Tire Shops Since they are local to me I drove to their store to pick up the long solid dually tire valves and per their recommendation I had Allen Tire Center near my home install the stems.

Super easy to fill the tires now. I also contacted Tire Minder and ordered the TM66 TPMS. After I installed the TPMS, I again contacted Tire Minder and purchased the flow through fill valve (no longer offered-but I believe their newer systems facilitate the same usefulness).

Here are pics of my current BorgStems, Tire Minder TPMS and Flow Through Valves. Great system that allows me to fill my tires in less than ten minutes.

Ted,

My coach had braided extenders on it when I got it from the original owner in 2014. I think they had been on for years, the owner couldn't tell me for sure. Up until a couple of years ago, they were trouble free until one chaffed when the tubing I'd installed over each to protect them had slipped without me noticing and the extender rubbed against the simulator and started leaking. I purchased replacements from Kaper II. They were helpful when ordering, and I received them promptly. I installed them and haven't had any trouble with them. I have TPMS sensors on them.

In some places (most I suppose) it's not a problem, but the things that caused me to stay with the braided extenders were that they can be removed easily for tire service or replacement, and, the tires can be balanced by any shop. With the solid extenders, the shop has to have the expertise to install them and the equipment to balance the tires with the solid extenders on.

Ted,
I have the same issue. The Borg's won't work with the internal TPMS that is on the 2021's.  Mike Coachman removed the Ford TPMS, installed the Borg's and added external TPMS.  I'm looking for a more elegant solution, but still removing the wheel covers to add air. I'm leaning towards the braided steel extenders that clamp onto the wheel lugs.

Aren't those Alligator caps the cat's meow? I've used them on the LD since I first heard of them back in the day. And all of my other vehicles sport them as well, including my Mobility Scooter.  ;D  I still laugh and quickly explain when some tire monkey tries to take them off.  >:(  It's as if they are unknown!

Long ago I bit the bullet and bought a whole box (100?) and over the years I've given them away to RVing friends I've met on the road.  ;)

When you find some good ones can you let me know?

Linda & Ted, I would seriously reconsider using those braided valve extenders. In the past I have had two come apart at the crimped on end connectors and one of those was new out of the bag. The ford TPMS is part of the valve stem and does have to be removed for the application of the Borg stems. That brings up a warning on the Ford dash when starting the engine that pressing the "OK" button on the steering wheel will remove the warning. It will not return to the screen as long as the engine is running, only when starting. I find that to be no problem. Eventually the Ford TPMS stems will have to be replaced with new ones ($$$$) by a tire shop ($$$$) when the batteries die. The external TPMS units I have from TST have replaceable button batteries that are easy to replace which I do each year. The Borg stems making pressure checking very easy.

We have a 2019 MidBath and installed Borg stems with TST TPMS.  We also use the Aligator caps on the TST sensors.  We’ve had very good experience with all three components.

Yesterday I added some air to the duallies.
I had to remove the wheel covers to get the best angle for my fill chuck and tire pressure gauge.

A hassle for sure.

A very big hassle indeed, hence the value of the ridged extended stems. And any chuck will work, no need for special ones.

And a bonus would be the Gator Caps, with which you can inflate or deflate without removal.   :D

I purchased the Borg extenders and the Valor TPMS interior sensors and the local Discount Tire did an excellent job installing both. 37,000 + miles and the Valor is still working exactly as hoped . At first I tried exterior sensors, but for several reasons decided against them. I sure hope whatever caused 2021 TPMS in the Ford not to work with Borgs gets figured out.

I would be tempted to remove the wheel covers permanently and keep the Ford TPMS system.

I removed my wheel covers a few years ago after realizing that they have caused me nothing but hassles and I'm not particular about the look.  I can't see the wheels while I'm driving anyway.

37,000 miles on a 2019? That’s what I call some serious traveling!  👍

I'm gonna just remove the covers when I need to air them.  I need to get a better tire gauge though.

I wonder why Ford does not install the Borg duallyvalve kit when it manufactures the chassis.  That would certainly be simpler for everyone.  I imagine most commercial users of the E450 chassis would also like to have an easy way to air the tires.  Reading through this thread, it sounds like if you want an easy way to air the tires on a new LD (and retain the wheel covers) the Ford TPMS system needs to be removed and discarded.  What is involved in removal?  Is that a job for a tire shop?

Hi Paul;  The Ford senders are inside the wheel at the valve stem.  You can use hard extenders, or flexible extenders. The Borg type isn't an extender, it IS the valve stem, and is fastened inside the wheel. You need to remove the tire and break the bead to get them in.
Other peoples complaints about the cost is unsubstantiated. I replaced my older cars original sensors at 12 years old at Costco for $70 per tire. They include 'teaching' the car computer to recognize the new sensors. (they are inside the wheels). Set of 4 Genuine For Ford Motorcraft Tire Pressure Sensor OEM DE8T-1A180-AA...
I'm sure some enterprising company will step in with a way to read towed vehicle tire pressure from the Ford display, or maybe it can read the towed cars sensors if you put the Ford sensors in a car that doesn't presently have a TPMS.  For that situation you would need a display in the towed, to see its tires while separated from the motorhome.
I'd like to see more details about the Ford sensors and readouts on the dash from Ford.      RonB
