Trying to decide
Hello All,
I am a complete Newbie to the world of RVing ....will be officially retiring the end of May and I am extremely interested in the Lazy Daze for her quality and community.  I am wondering if there is anyone out there with a 24 ft LD who will be visiting the New England area over the next few months and would be willing for me to tour and talk to you.  I toured and drove a 31 ft yesterday which was for sale and I was too overwhelmed with the size and really could not see myself hitting the road with this large of a vehicle.
Soon to hit the big 65 and so looking forward to getting out there.
Thanks for any help or advice you can offer.

Hi,

I live in the New England area. PM me and we can make arrangements to see my 24ft TK.
She is a 2002.

If you want to see if you can handle the 27 foot models,  go down to U-Haul and rent one of their 27 ft trucks for a day.  It's based on the same frame and will give you an idea how it would be to drive a Lazy Daze of that size.

If you can sleep in the overhead bed in a 24 footer then look at those.
If not then the bed will need to be made twice a day in the back if you want living space during the day.

We couldn't so we got a 27' mid bath.

Some people/couples will use the passenger side couch as a bed, leaving it that way all the time, and using the driver side couch during the day.  Of course, if entertaining in the rear lounge, you’ll need to convert the passenger side into a couch again. It’s really not a big deal to convert the couches back and forth into beds though. Pretty quick and easy!

At 6'3" tall the motorhome beds have always been an issue for me... until I found the TK and now the MB.

Thanks to all for the responses.
My husband is 6'4 and (at this point) still is wondering about the RV lifestyle.  This purchase will really be mine but I want to purchase a rig that will accommodate his height and "particular needs" as I really want to travel together as a couple knowing full well that I may be a solo traveler in the end.

Annamarie, the Lazy Daze interior floorplans and measurements have not changed much, if at all, over the last 20 years so the info on the LD website may help you make a choice on which floorplan and length to choose.  Be sure to bring your hubby when you go look at rigs so he can give it the "lie down" test!

Depending on what age used rig you look at, there could be some different floorplans which have since been discontinued.  The link above shows the most common, and current plans.  Good luck!

Hello Hilola,

Thanks for your input.  My husband is starting to warm up to the idea of "hitting the road" and actually researching quite a bit.  He is fairly left-brained and so has much more info on the various layouts and options available.  The key to having him come along on the journey is the availability of certain comforts.  I am keenly interested in a quality vehicle and can certainly adapt more easily.  In an ideal world I think the 26.5' LD would be the best option.  I am going to go and rent a 27' UHaul for the day and drive it around to see how I can manage this length on the road.

Continued appreciation,
Annamarie

Annamarie,

Something else to think about. Do you plan to tow a vehicle? That could influence your choice. If you're not sure, a search within the forum will provide you with plenty of food for thought on the subject.

I have a similar situation to yours, as my wife isn’t planning on joining me on the majority of my trips, she’ll join me for key segments, like Banff/Jasper the first summer.  She may warm up to the idea.   We’ll see, still not expecting my 24’ TK until late next year.   Getting a 24 TK over a 27 MB because it will be primarily me and I know of a number of places I can go being just 24’ where larger rigs cannot.

Difference is I have driven a 24’ C (non LD) for about 16 weeks, 12-17 years ago, so I already know how a 24’ RV handles, I’ve also driven a 27’ RV for a week.   They don’t drive that much differently, if you are comfortable with either, the other will be similar.
I’ve also driven a number of rental trucks, both locally and across country.

Every time I start driving a large vehicle after not doing so for a year, it feels HUGE, a bit overwhelming.     A day later, feels just fine, you get used to the size.  So give yourself many hours driving if you are going to rent a truck to get a feel.   Better yet, rent a RV for a few a days, as that’s much closer to the feel of a LD.   Granted, a LD should handle better than an average rental.
