Waxing April 19, 2021, 11:35:21 am I did a search on "waxing" and found 2 year old threads so I thought I'd do a more current thread. I washed, used a compound polish with a random orbital buffer, and then carnuba wax. That's a 2 to 3 day job for me.The carnuba wax was okay for ease of use but I'm wondering if there is a wax that is easier to use and just as durable? 1 Likes
Re: Waxing Reply #1 – April 19, 2021, 12:19:24 pm Carnuba wax can provide beautuful shine but it doesn’t last long, it’s great for show car that is stored in a garage but doesn’t hold up well to the elements for an extended period.For RV usage, one of the higher end polymer or ceramic waxes from Mothers, Maguiars or or ohter source is better.Before waxing, I use a clay bar once a year on the LD, after a good washing.The random orbit buffer comes out every two or three years for compounding and polishing.Larry 3 Likes

I forget where I found it; possibly the LD factory? There may be cheaper and/or better products but I self-admittedly haven’t researched it because I’m happy with the results I get with FF. 2 Likes

Re: Waxing Reply #6 – April 19, 2021, 02:49:10 pm I still use Finsh First on our vehicles. What I have liked best about it is how easy it goes on and is wiped off. I suspect that the Mequiars product Joan referenced is probably just as good and priced similarly. I think Turtle has a similar product that doesn't put white or blue stains on the black trim though. With an RV, I really think ease of use and durability are more important than the shine.Steve K. 2 Likes

Presently, I've been using products from Griot’s Garage to restore the paint on my LD and am getting good results. The new technology polymer waxes are easier to use IMO. I like that it goes on and comes off easily, and has almost no dust...something very important to me. They also have a clay sponge in addition to a clay bar. This is much easier for me to use and is still usable if you drop it, unlike a clay bar. I drop things a lot, so the sponge works for me.🙃 5 Likes

Being able to wash it is a great improvement.Before attemping buffing or waxing, the rig always gets washed and clayed. Detailing clay, used with a spray clay lubricant, removes all sorts of surface contamination and leaves the surface smooth.Larry 2 Likes
