Thanks, all. The one lock I removed was for a floor-level storage compartment.  I don’t know if all ten locks have this sealant or not.  I’ll find out when the replacements are received and switched out.  I guess my questions now are whether they really need a sealant, and if so, what would be a good type to use?  Sounds like Jon just gave me the answer to the second question!

Finally received my locks a couple days ago. After ordering, I realized I should have ordered the backing plates and dust covers as well so just placed a phone order for those.  If you plan on ordering from this company and qualify, be sure to ask for the military discount.  I placed the original order online and didn’t think of it but called their phone number for the subsequent order and inquired about the discount.

Received the backing plates and dust covers for the tubular camlocks and installed the first one today. The backing plates are a must, in my opinion.  A few photos:

The locks are round with two flat sides milled into them, to match the same shape hole in each of the doors
Locks can get turned too hard and round-out a door's hole, rendering the locks useless because they can be spun without a key.
The backing plates can be used to repair this damage screwing them into the inside of the door, reestablishing flat sides for the locks to index to.
