Research time was less then 5 minutes, I have first hand experience with this company for mattress  and pillow quality I did not read any reviews about their topper. Decision point was King topper dimensions which I think will fit  our requirements with minor modifications.

We are new to Lazy Daze and are totally green with motorhome concept and camping experience is limited to going with my son when he was in Boys Scout. I am reading this forum for years and have lot of bookish knowledge and am not sure how much I can recall when I will need it. Fact that I was able to book campgrounds for next ~5 months give me some hope that I will recall the knowledge.

As for logistics, paying CA tax will cost about 2K more plus I will like to pay NJ instead of CA. We already have paid for the motorhome and have all the papers with us. Have an appointment with NJ DMV next week and hopefully we will get the new number plate in real time during the appointment. Paying in advance allow us to get permanent license plate and make us independent of few weeks limitation of temporary plate.

I had a need for a car anyway and timing was right to have the car which can be towed four wheel down.  I looked for weight consideration etc. and bought Equinox AWD which is good enough for now. I promised myself not to buy stuff before I need them but looking at the list I bought 77 items (wish I am more disciplined) and there are few more items on the list  I am resisting to get. Bulky items are going directly to my son who lives in LA but even with whatever I got at my home in NJ I doubt I can fit in my car ... but no truck, we have to go by car as we have an appointment to set it for tow in KY (this is where NSA tow bar and break vendors are). I have to pick two AGM batteries not far from LD and I am sure my wife will spend few hours in Walmart and Grocery store before our pickup time. I talked to LazyDaze and they are fine with us coming and dumping whatever we want a day in advance. We will have walk thru in LA and then driver will take us to LV where notary will certify that delivery happened outside CA and same evening we will have our first camping 20 miles away in Red Rock Canyon ground. We will keep the car in LA and pick it up in few weeks after breaking in the truck and have more confidence driving a longer vehicle.

This group and information on this forum is a treasure.  Hope I answered your questions from a beginners point of view ... please look for posts from Linda few weeks ago, she posted a detailed note about her pick up experience. Also look for Mike C. posts who picked his second LD and I think his 5th or 6th motorhome few months ago.

As for delivery date, my promise delivery date was in Nov. Keep your plans flexible ....

Sounds like you have a good solid plan.  We are having problems getting Kentucky DMV to agree to allow us to prepay our registration and taxes so we can get our plates to drive. They are saying the local sheriff has to inspect the chassis to verify the VIN and can't do it virtually. I showed the sheriff the VIN but he said he can't accept it as correct until he sees the vehicle. Also they say the fire chief has to inspect for safety before we can register the vehicle since it is a camper. I asked for temporary tags and they said I can't get them until it's inspected.  They told me to get transport tags from CA but if I'm not paying CA taxes, I doubt that will happen.  Our state only has 6 % sales tax so I was hoping to pay that rather than CA tax. I'm going to call Todd again at LD and see if he has a suggestion. My husband is considering having it shipped to KY under cover at this point. ::)

The way it's done is you get an ICC driver to take you to the CA border. You WILL get a transport permit so you can drive back to KY. Then you pay sales tax to KY instead of CA.  The driver is arranged by Lazy Daze.  It's relatively painess

Saw your other message and Chris response. Temp tag was our plan B but we need more days than what temp tag will give us to come back home. If you are not spending months coming back, then temp tag is good enough. Factory and manual were very helpful deciding best option for the situation.

We'd really like to go up and down the west coast while we're out there but Todd said California doesn't like you entering CA soon after sale if you don't pay their sales tax.  If we fly out we won't have our ebikes or other camping gear so we will drive back to KY and outfit our rig.

I don't think that Todd is in a position to state that California doesn't want tourist dollars. Just make sure that you can establish that you really are residents of another state. The focus being on people, really residents of California, trying to avoid state sales tax ( called road use fees ).   Out of state drivers licenses, out of state Insurance documentation, loan documentation from out of Ca. banks, proof of a residence in another state, etc.     A brand new motorhome from LD, you have already contributed to a California company, food, gasoline and park entrance fees, what's not to like. Of course, license plates from another state, if you can get them early to bring with you, makes it clear.
      In 2017 I bought a used MB for friends from Ma.. They got plates sent to me, I installed them, kept proof of insurance from Ma. and I had a notarized statemet from them saying that I was allowed to drive it until they arrived to pick it up and drive it back to Florida. It wasn't outfitted, and I still had my LD.    RonB

Off topic but .....  There are two issues here, one, any person or place selling something in California is responsible for collecting the Sales Tax due.   If you don't pay they, the person/company will have to pay it out of their pocket.   All the paperwork is to cover LD's  sales tax liability.   Issue two, the limited trip permit is a permit to travel on California roads  to the nearest border Legally once one has left the State one should not reenter.   Particularly  California has two borders, east and north.   (The west border will put you in water.   As I understand it most Lazy Daze will not go far before sinking.   The south border will put you in Mexico.  Getting back in the USA might be a issue.)   
I'm sure if the  CHP pulls you over with personal Out of State paperwork the issue will not be vehicle registration issues.

<smile> Being from Oregon were we have NO sales tax I studied the issue in detail.

Hi Glen.  No, LD won't transfer ownership until you are in another state. The I.C.C. driver is an agent for Lazy Daze.  Once in Nevada or Arizona, (even Oregon) the sale is completed. At that point the owner who has taken delivery, is free to re-enter the state.  Proper proof that you do own the rig, that you do have insurance, and that you really are a legal resident of another state, then you should be ok.  I wouldn't ever consider entering Mexico with a new motorhome, until I had firm registration, plates and some miles on it. Mexican insurance required. Banks with loans on your rig, probably prohibit leaving the country until you pay off the loan.    RonB

We have no intention of going south of the border! But Kentucky won't give us a registration until we bring the rig all the way to KY for the sheriff's VIN inspection and the fire marshall's safety inspection. I haven't given up yet and I'll talk to Todd again to see if he has any ideas. I am waiting for our county sheriff to talk to his "buddies" at the state level to see if they have any answers.  They don't know how to deal with a direct from factory vehicle purchase.  I'm still really excited about taking ownership but at this point, I'm not sure what our first weeks of travel will look like ::)
