We were looking at the tan which would hide the dust.In the end, we realized we'd have road dirt more often than off-road dirt and went which best matched.Understand your 'landlubberness'. Likely only if you upgrade the hitch/receiver assembly to take advantage of the 7,500 GCWR-GVWR. Wranglers keep getting heavier over time. Depending on model, the curb weights are already about 4,000 lbs and up. With options and cargo I can see some models pushing 5,000 lbs. The new Wrangler Rubicon 392 with a Hemi V8 would be quite the ride though!Art 1 Likes
Re: This is what I want Reply #11 – December 30, 2020, 03:56:56 pm I'm on list for a 31 IB white/Sliver, I have a 4-door wrangler (silver) that is at 5225 LBS and if I continue to build it out like I want that weight will go up. I can tow my Jeep (with additional cargo in it) with my 31' Phoenix Cruiser with no problem; the E450 has more than enough power to do the job. I did have to change out the hitch, Phoenix uses a bolt on hitch (5000 lbs), I changed it out to an 8000 lbs hitch. This has been my one big concern, how to beef up the hitch that comes on the LD, I've seen some pictures of how some have welded on steel to strengthen what comes on the LD; I'm wondering if this is enough. Or do I look into a bolt on hitch like I have on my Phoenix Cruiser. I'd prefer to hook my Jeep up to the receiver that comes with the LD, adding a whole new hitch will hang below the rear bumper and I don't like the thought of scraping when entering or exiting driveways or the way it would look.
Re: This is what I want Reply #12 – December 30, 2020, 06:26:24 pm Dan, I have a 30 IB and have replaced all of the grade 5 bolts with grade 8, which I understand the factory uses now. I also welded on two tangs to be able to clip the backup tow chains. But I havent looked at beefing up the hitch because my toad would be either an older jeep cherokee that weights 3200lbs or a honda crv. I dont particularly like how LD added onto the original Ford frame in the back and hope they do a stouter design now. In any case, I was looking at welding in a completely new structure and taking it to the original frame if I got a heavier vehicle. You might ask Todd to take some photos of their current setup for you. They are finishing a 31 IB unit now, and I had him send me some photos of the overcab area.

Re: This is what I want Reply #16 – January 10, 2021, 12:11:46 pm Exploring "Forum View" brought me back to this thread and I realized I can add something here...On the advice of Vince (former Lazy Daze Service Manager), we had Paul Brow of All Car Specialists in in San Gabriel, CA fabricate and install the cross brace shown in the attached photo. Apparently, Paul has done this for a number of LD owners. The brace, per Vince's advice, is removable (bolted rather than welded), to allow servicing of the holding tank. The purpose of the brace is to provide lateral reinforcement of the frame rail extensions that Lazy Daze installs (connecting the Ford frame rails to the Lazy Daze Bumper assembly). We also replaced & reinforced all hardware with grade eight, per advice of others on this forum. At a recent caravan, It was said that our cross-brace reinforcement is probably overkill for our 4350 Lb Jeep Wrangler Two Door. This may be true but I sleep better and don't miss the modest cash expended.With regard to the excellent point "Beefing up the hitch is not the only consideration", I offer my experience that we generally tour in our 2019 27 MB weighing 12,900 Lbs or so. We unhitch the Jeep before climbing significant grades and even moderate grades at higher altitudes. At lower elevation the powerful and light E450 - Lazy Daze pulls the Jeep handily. At higher elevations the effects of altitude can be readily felt (do study Ford's guidance on reducing GCVWR at altitude). My sense is that towing a 5000 Lb plus vehicle on significant grades and certainly at altitude would test and ultimately contribute to premature failure of drivetrain components, especially the transmission. I would opt for a lighter vehicle. In fact, I have considered replacing our second car with a second, lighter weight toad for occasions where we do not need the Jeep. 4 Likes
