Bossa Nova's New Home
On June 12, 2017 Marie and I had the experience of a lifetime when we picked up our 2017 27’ Mid Bath at the mothership.  She was our first RV and after Todd walked us through all the systems, we drove her to our first campsite in Pomona for a few nights until we were confident everything was working and we semi-knew what we were doing.  Over the next last three-and-a-half years, she took us on adventures we had only dreamed of, camping in 37 of the lower 48 States, from Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons to the sand dunes of Florida’s Atlantic coast, from Cape Cod’s Nantucket Sound to Liberty Harbor on the Hudson River overlooking the island of Manhattan.  Every year Bossa Nova brought us to our families outside Detroit, Minneapolis, Cape Cod, Dexter, Iowa and the Research Triangle in North Carolina and she was the magic carpet that carried Marie’s five granddaughters, with their parents, over a couple of weeks to Walt Disney World and Sea World a few miles from where we live in Davenport, Florida before the virus overtook all our lives.

Over this last year it has become hard for Marie to travel without pain, so we decided it was time to find Bossa Nova a new home.  A few weeks ago I saw that Greg Harvey (whose posts I have admired over the last few years) was open to buying a newer Mid-Bath while he was on the waitlist for a new 2022.  I reached out to him and we started a conversation about Bossa Nova.  I sent pictures, we talked about her maintenance and on Monday, he flew in to Orlando from California.  We spent all day on Tuesday (7am to 5pm) going through all the systems and every inch of her, inside and out and ended up at the DMV where we transferred title and Greg received a temporary Florida tag to drive her back to California.  To say Marie and I have mixed emotions about selling our baby would be an understatement, but we believe it is a triple win: first, she is going to amazing new parents, Greg and Victoria who, in the end, have been part of the Lazy Daze family for years; second, she will be going back to California just a couple of hours I hear from her birthplace after living in Florida for a while; and third, everyone on the two-year waitlist will get their dream-LDs a little sooner than they had anticipated.

Thanks to all of you for your sage advice on the forum and the fun posts, too.  We will miss being part of the family.  Thanks for everything.

Be safe and have fun.

Thanks for sharing this news, David. We've enjoyed your posts over the last years and hope you won't be a stranger to LDOG. And great news for Greg and Victoria.

Thank you for the kind words, David! I was pretty resigned to a new purchase until David reached out with his offer of Bossa Nova. I too remember his and Marie’s posts about their fondness for their new Lazy Daze and subsequent travels and adventures in her and I had a good feeling that Bossa Nova might be the pre-owned LD I’ve been searching for. Considering it required flying to Florida in the middle of a pandemic, it had better be- ha!

David graciously picked me up at the airport in Orlando and we went over straight away to Bossa Nova’s storage area where David gave me an initial introduction and we set up a time to meet the following morning. As David mentioned, we spent the entire day on Tuesday at the storage area, where David allowed me to inspect, poke and prod almost every square inch of the RV. He answered all of my questions, of which I had many, since a 2017 Midbath is quite different than the 1985 TK I had before. I was unfamiliar with things such as the generator, solar, etc. and David quickly got me up to speed. David and Marie had done an excellent job keeping up the maintenance and condition and, by early afternoon after a test drive, I knew Bossa Nova was the one for Victoria and me.  A little later, we found ourselves at the Florida DMV conducting the transaction and transferring ownership of Bossa Nova.

I must mention that I don’t think I’ve ever met a more honest and friendly person as David. He was very welcoming and was an excellent host, accommodating every request I made . . . above and beyond, I might add!  I also got to meet his lovely and friendly wife, Marie, who came by for a quick visit at the storage area during the inspection period.

David and I are meeting up later this morning where he will say his goodbyes and I will joyfully take possession of his baby. I promise to take good care of Bossa Nova on the trip back to California and thereafter!

Thanks, Greg.  It's been a pleasure hanging out with you and I must admit I learned some things during your inspection.  I am looking forward to hearing about your adventures with Bossa Nova and hopefully meeting Victoria down the road as well.  I hope your California trip is a safe one.  See you in a bit.
Best wishes for happy trails.

Congrats to both Gregg and David for their transaction. Gregg, I have read all your posts over the years and really had my doubts you would ever own another RV. David must have found a way to incorporate the number "22", Gregg's lucky number, into the sale! :D

Best wished to all,

Thanks, Steve! Not sure about the 22 part but it didn’t take much convincing to get me to finally pull the trigger as I was ready to buy. So far, so good! Guess I should probably give Todd a call and give him the news.

David and Marie, that means you have graduated to the LDAA (LazyDaze Alumni Assn).  Does not affect your membership in the FOLD  (Fraternal Order of LazyDaze)
Being zero, the dues are easily accommodated.

Congratulations David and Greg!

David, I’m sure you and Marie are happy that your beloved LD is in good hands and will be well taken care of.

Greg, I’m very happy for you and Victoria.  I know you wanted to move fast if the right LD came by and it looks like it really did.  As you know, you and I were just a couple of weeks apart from each other on the list.  I still have some months ahead of me but I hope to meet up with you and Victoria sometime.  Enjoy your drive home 😊

Thanks for all the well wishes! My first overnight on the road in Bossa Nova, a Walmart parking lot in DeFuniak, Florida of all places. But hey, I needed a few things (like a sleeping bag and pillow). It’s supposed to get down to freezing tonight so I will need it. Isn’t it supposed to be warm in Florida?

I had to Google DeFuniak... it looks like a real interesting town, maybe for another visit.   Being right off of US 10 you’ll at least have a straight shot to California 🙂

Hehe, that long drive on I-10 is a boring one, but effective.

I have a feeling that tonight’s overnight in the Cracker Barrel parking lot is going to be much more restful than the one at the Walmart was last night!

By the way - DeFuniak Springs, Florida is famous for cave diving.  Water is as clear as air.  Really was not widely known except for divers.

Dive with a buddy without exception.

Cheers!

Tony, unfortunately  I did not have time to do any exploring while in Defuniak Springs. Perhaps in a future trip though!

That dish would be maple bacon chicken breast, with a side of Mac and cheese, beans and biscuits. Very filling and yummy!

Just got off the phone with Todd and informed him that he could take me off the list and move someone up. I was pretty close to the top of the list so someone will be getting a call soon, yay!

Bossa Nova and I made it to Junction, Texas where we are really living it up tonight and staying in an actual RV park:

PECAN VALLEY RV PARK & FARM - Pecan Valley

This is a hidden gem of a place with only about 20 large sites, all with full hook-ups. The campground is on the North Llano River and is surrounded by an actual working pecan farm. The camp host was really nice and even gave me a sample of the candied pecans that they sell. I may have to stay here an extra night!

Left the Pecan Valley RV park after a couple nights of enjoying the serenity and the hookups. Tonight’s stay is dry camping in the Cracker Barrel parking lot in El Paso. There are only a few available RV spots because of some portable cooling units they have placed in the lot but I got here early enough to grab one of them. There is one other RV that pulled in after me. Tomorrow I am heading for Tucson, probably another Cracker Barrel stay. I’m really getting to like their dinners!

Today I saw my first LD since leaving Florida. Got this photo at a rest area east of Fort Stockton, then later on they passed me and we both gave a friendly Lazy Daze wave.

Greg,

The long wait is finally over. Frankly, I’m a bit shocked. Started reading this post somewhere in the middle and had to back up to see if what I read was true. Congratulations!

Like you, our LD came home very nearly at Christmas time. With that, Merry Christmas.

Thanks, Kent, great to be back in the FOLD!  I told Victoria this is all she is getting for Christmas this year.  Think Bossa Nova will fit under the tree?

Merry Christmas to you and yours, and to a happier 2021!

Made it to Cracker Barrel in Tucson. There are five RV/bus spaces here and I’m the first one so got my first choice. Walked over to the nearby McDonald’s to use the free Wi-Fi since I’m getting low on data and saw this interesting landscaping. McDonald’s, Tucson style!
