Painting the interior that has the grey/teal color scheme
I have the 1991 rb with the original grey and teal interior, with beige walls and countetops. (Why use beige with grey??) I would like to paint the inside walls and cabinets something lighter.  I've collected lots of paint chips at paint stores and cannot find anything that looks good with this upholstery.  We don't care for all white, or black and white.  Bright white walls triggers my husband’s migraines. I plan to put slipcovers over the furniture but I still need to find some colors that will go with the original upholstery.  I don't want more grey.  Has anyone else found complimentary colors to use with this upholstery combination?

Hi Tracy. I guarantee that Lazy Daze did not provide that gray upholstery, or the flooring in the picture. I think Mauve was the color thirty years ago, with beige shag carpet.  Is your rig exterior Teal?     RonB

I'm probably missing something, but I'm curious as to why you would need to find colors to go with the "original upholstery" (I agree with Ron; I don't believe that LD ever used the colors or fabrics shown in your photos.) if you plan to cover the furniture with slipcovers? If you're going to change color schemes with paint and fabrics, why be concerned about choosing colors to "go with" what's there now?

YMMV, as always.

NB: Lazy Daze may offer plenty of "build quality" perks, but their color sense and fabric choices were often cringe-worthy over a span of many years. (IMO, anyway.)

Many years ago, while visiting LD’s showroom, my wife asked if the person who picked the fabric colors was colorblind.

I'll add to that, I really like the blue patterned upholstery that I have in my '99 TK.  I like the wood toned walls. I would also have liked the lighter toned 'wood' that came in about 2001, or '02.  The carpet color, light blue, I liked but showed dirt too easily. I have floor coverings over that now that is a darker blue. Not walking on the back wall, or engine cover, the lighter blue is OK.  Floormats take care of the cab.  I like the white ceilings and some wall partitions. I wish it was white 'Formica' on the wall sections for more durability and ease of cleaning. 
      I haven't liked the upholstery 'blue' since they introduced what I call the 'scrambled egg' scheme with more yellow tones. With my 2022 coach, (never ordered because factory closed)  I'll live with my choice for awhile. Too bad that Butterfield is gone, but I would recover with the same blue pattern I have now, If I can find anything similar.  Lazy Daze isn't big enough to commission its own color line of fabrics, and like us, is subject to durable fabric colors that are 'out there'. 
     The biggest complaint I have now, (still minor) is the patterned ceiling and walls that showed up circa 2006 or so. I think it makes the walls and ceiling look 'pre-dirtied'.  It darkens the interior and gives me that 'living in a cave' feel. I would prefer the whiter ceilings.  I don't walk into many homes with non white ceilings, so I can sympathize with people who want to paint over things with white. The wall coverings that aren't white, and aren't wood tone, would be ok. I would probably get used to those.            RonB

So you have seen every color combination LD has ever offered? Evidently not.
This is all original upholstery, wall paper, carpeting and etc. LD may not have done a lot in this color scheme, but it's theirs.  Todd at LD said he hadn't seen that combo in some time so maybe only a few chose it.  Anyway, I’m not finding many options besides white to update this.

Btw, the chair was sitting on the floor in my house when the picture was taken.

Yes, that looks just like some of the original upholstery of the "era".    We had a 1994 26' MB.   The flooring looks like linoleum.  We had a really nice small patch of a fairly dark vinyl just in the kitchen.   Very durable.      Our carpet and upholstery was all in the tan/brown/turquoise range, sort of "splotchy".   It showed no dirt, lint, etc and the velvety texture was very nice.   It also was a bit like Velcro, picking up everything.     Our window valances were tan & brown.    And, our wood was a lighter almost maple tone. 
Perhaps a taupe tone for paint?

Hi Tracy, When I joined the Caravan club in 2001, I got to see into a lot of club member's rigs, and many were of that time frame, from the '80's up to the 2001 models. I also visited the 'mothership' from about 1996 until I ordered one in August 1999. So I saw many color schemes, but I don't recall yours in particular. So I'm sorry I assumed that you or a previous owner had changed it out. Actually the grey still looks nice, and would work in my blue themed interior. But updating the insides is a very personal choice. I'd still like to see what you come up with, but I can't offer much help.  RonB

No, I haven't seen all of the upholstery that LD used over the years; maybe there is a collection of "color boards" stashed away in the factory.  I just figured that the upholstery was not original primarily because the colors and pattern in the photos are a great deal more subtle and understated than many "explosion in the paint factory" patterns and color combinations that LD has used over the past 64 years.

Good luck with the interior design projects.

Hi Tracy,
I have a ‘91 rear lounge with your identical color scheme.  Previous owners removed the carpet when they installed radiant heat. They chose a tile sold at Home Depot, Allure Ashlar. The color would go well with your cute puppy. 😉 They also had custom shades made which I love.  I felt the LD window trims were too heavy and dark.  I removed them all- what a difference! I’m not the least bit artistic. My suggestion would be to take photos to a legitimate (as opposed to big box) paint store. They’ll use a color wheel to give you options that would work well together.

Hard to see with cushions and couch cover, but what's visible looks very appealing for the period, especially with coordinating floor and window treatments.

I have one 35-pound dog with a highly-efficient mess-making capability. Every "absorbent" surface that can be covered in the LD is, and has always been, covered with sturdy, washable throws or rugs in colors that are as close to the "DHD" (Dog Hair and Dirt) shades as possible.

As always, YMMV.  ;)

PJ, Love your shades and floor.  I want to remove all the valences as well for the same reason and probably will.  I thought I might cut the sides off and recover them, I like the lighter look with more wall space.  We know we are going to remove the carpet soon and replace the flooring, maybe vinyl planking, but I hear those lift with temperature changes.  Thanks for the pictures!
