New Flooring 2006 Mid Bath November 25, 2020, 10:57:25 am Question for the experienced: I’m pulling the carpet and putting down wood laminate flooring in my rig. My question is, what is behind the carpet that goes up the rear wall in the lounge? I haven’t pulled the carpet yet. Will I need to re carpet with a new carpet or is it a paintable surface? How is the original carpet secured? Glue?Soooo many questions!
Re: New Flooring 2006 Mid Bath Reply #1 – November 25, 2020, 12:52:36 pm On my '08 MB the back wall is made with the same material as the side walls - 3/16 plywood with a facing. Most of the carpet is fastened with about 10 jillion staples. Removing the carpet should be manageable but is likely to reveal an unsightly surface from all the staple holes. I can feel a thin strip, probably a folded carpet end, at the top of the carpet, but it might be a metal carpet nailer such as is used on wall to wall carpeting. If I were to remove my back wall carpeting, I would be assuming that some sort of covering would be needed, either new carpet, a flooring material, sanding and filling and papering or painting, or some such.Ken F in NM 2 Likes

Re: New Flooring 2006 Mid Bath Reply #3 – November 25, 2020, 05:01:21 pm Clean for the MidBath. My TK and the RK, I think, that store the tire on the other side of the wall, will have carriage bolt heads showing. They can be seen through the carpet. RonB 2 Likes
Re: New Flooring 2006 Mid Bath Reply #4 – November 26, 2020, 06:57:44 pm Mine is a '95 rear lounge, we replaced the carpet with cork floors, and had carpet running up the back wall. The back carpet was only held by the million staples, but no glue at all, so it was easy to paint over.On ours we have the spare tire attached to the back so we saw the bolts from the screws after removing the carpet. This wasn't an issue for us since we ended up making an L shaped couch and covered the back with a cushion, but it's still there. 13 Likes
Re: New Flooring 2006 Mid Bath Reply #6 – November 27, 2020, 08:55:38 pm majortom, Thank you for the pictures. The previous owner of my ‘91 installed radiant heat but left the carpet on the back wall. I’ve been afraid to remove it because I didn’t know what was underneath. I took out one barrel chair and removed the decades old couch cushions. My problem is I couldn’t sleep a wink in the overhead bunk. Are you able to create a sleeping area with your new configuration? Thanks,Peggy

That made the pull out bed into a full size bed now.We sleep on the over cab queen bed which we removed the original cushiony foam and just put a fit to size 3" thick bed which makes for enough sleeping space up there without feeling claustrophobic 1 Likes
