Re: Update on the new 7.3L V8 Reply #26 – August 15, 2020, 01:25:58 pm When towing, you can never have too much power.The 7.3l"s added 50-HP is only an 18% increase, not a huge game-changer compared to what Ford's 6.7L turbo-charged, inner-cooled diesel's 475-HP and 1050-LB of torque produces...that would be a game-changer.Heck, even the F-series 430-HP 7.3L engine would be a big upgrade over the detuned 7.3L engine in the 2021 E450.Larry

Have to say it is much better then I thought it would be. It pulls better, with less effort, quieter especially up hills and much less engine heat. The dog house is the same size, no change. The new dash layout and steering wheel controls are very nice, it also has stability control. Can't wait to take it out on the first trip!"Charles 1 Likes

Re: Update on the new 7.3L V8 Reply #38 – October 30, 2020, 12:04:26 pm We just drove our 2021 LD with the new 7.3L V-8 from Arizona to Michigan and returning to Florida yesterday. In our previous 2010 LD we averaged around 7.5mpg towing a Cherokee for several years. We did not tow this trip for break-in purposes. Needless to say, I am more than impressed with the new engine & drive train. We did some long steep (7+%) grades in AZ with almost no effort which did lower the mpg down to 8.5 (some generator use with that tank refill) from the previous 11.9 (during our break-in travel) we got earlier. The digital dash display also shows the average mileage both for a set trip and overall. That was 10.7 mpg for the almost 4K miles driven so far. I also feel the engine sound level in the cab is lower than in the previous LD. I am very happy with the new Ford chassis. 8 Likes

That time frame added to my age and increasing arthritis simply pushes the possibility into “it ain’t going to happen” category. On the other hand maybe science will develop an anti-aging treatment! The wind noise level is the same as the 2010 that had the new (then) nose cone. I never drove an earlier LD for additional comparisons. To me the wind noise is not objectionable even at high (+70mph) speeds.
