Anti-theft system won't disarm - help
Hi all!!

So here I am at Itasca State Park in Minnesota.

Just arrived and stopped at the dump station to fill with fresh water and empty the tanks.

As I climb back into the drivers seat I accidentally hit / sit on the key fob and arm the security system. Now I can't disarm it. Ugh. Everytime I open the cab doors or try to turn on the engine it alarms. Engine will not start. I am stuck literally blocking the dump station.  We are here overnight waiting on Good Sam to send a locksmith in the morning.  And if that doesn't work.... they want to tow me to a ford dealer.

We tried every thing we can think of in the goofy little manual. The manual is for an "LD 168" car alarm.  Also took the battery out to see if it would reset with no luck.

Tried to find a schematic of the fuse panel. No luck with that either.

Suggestions welcome.  We are literally- sleeping at the dump station.  Ugh.

Thanks!!

Long shot, as your system is probably different from mine.   I cut the wire to the speaker under the hood that makes the alarm sound.  Now my rig just flashes quietly when I accidentally set the alarm off.

Also on my system, clicking the key fob buttons arms and disarms the alarm.  So if the key fob armed things, that might also disarm them.

The key fob doesn't seem to be communicating at all anymore.  The locks don't lock / unlock with the fob either.  It's pretty beat up. See pics.

The blue light on the key fob is working when the buttons are pushed.

The security system manual says there is an override button but I dont know what it looks like or exactly where to look for it.

I think I will look for that speaker wire though.  Before the other campers come after me.  Lol!! JK! Everyone has been very nice and not complained about the intermittent 30 second screaming alarms.

The alarm brand is called LD 168 car alarm?

Found some advice online.

1.  Most procedures will vary from car to car, but you can try removing and replacing the fob battery.

2.  Try inserting your key into the door lock and turning the key to the locked position and then turning the key into the unlock position twice.

3.  You can also try holding the key in the unlock position for two seconds.

4.  Car battery.  Remove the negative terminal wire. Use a wrench to loosen the nut of the negative terminal and remove the wire from the battery.   After about a minute, reattach the wire.

5.  You may also want to try replacing the fuse that is associated with your vehicle’s alarm.

Step 1: Locate the fuse box. This is typically located under the left side of the steering wheel.

Step 2: Remove the corresponding fuse. Consult your manual to determine which fuse is associated with your car alarm.

Step 3: Replace the fuse. Replace it with a fuse rated for the same amperage.

Finally, do you have a second fob?  Did you try to use it?  And if not, do you have a replacement battery?

Hope this helps.

Yes.  The alarm booklet / manual says LD 186.

Going to try all these suggestions again in the morning.
And I may have found the override button.  See pics.

If anyone knows what this button is please let me know... especially if I'm not supposed to push it. ;)

Thanks again everyone!

Your LD's security system is an aftermarket add-on. No one here will know how your rig is wired.
That your trouble began when you sat on the fob, try disassembling the FOB and reassembling it, making sure the battery is in place. and nothing appears to be out of place or broken. Change the fob's battery if you have one.

If the fob is broken or doesn't appear to work, you willl need to disable the system.
The fuses are likely to be inline fuses and not in the fuse box, they normally are hidden under the dash., with the driverside the most likely location..
The wiring under the dash can be accessed by pulling the plastic knee guard off, held on with spring clips,. This exposes the steel shield behind. Remove the three screws securing the shield in place to see the underdash wiring.
Pull any inline fuses found, keeping track where each fuse in located and its size, in case it is for some other added device..
The goal of doing this is to deactivate the alarm, it may not fix the underlying problem.
Finding and cutting the alarm's wires will also silence it. Some alarms are elaborate, connected to the exterior lights, horn, door locks and other devices.
This is also a good time to look for the light gauge wires that go to the Bypass button.

Most security systems cut the fuel pump's power or disconnect the starter, so the engine doesn't turn over. A few systems will cut the ignition
Does your LD's crank when you turn the key to 'start'? If it doesn't crank, trace the wiring from the starter back to the ignition switch, looking for a Factory wire that has been cut and had wires spliced to it leading off, usually to the alarm's contol box.

If it does crank but doesn't start, try turning the ignition from "Off" to start, while having someone with decent hearing sit in the rear of the coach listening for the electric fuel pump's humm,  The fuel pump is located inside the gas tank and will run for a second or two before turning off.  It will cycle everytime the Ignition is turned on. If you hear nothing suspect the it has a fuel pump cutoff is used.
If it does humm and crank, look for an ignition cutout.

No matter what the disabling method, the connection should be found somewhere under the dash. If you find a cut Factory wire, reconnect it, it may be what is keeping the engine from starting.
Taking your LD to Ford isn't suggested, they will not know about how it is wired, With troubleshooting at $150 an hour, The bill can add up fast, especially if the mechanic isn't familiar with old school alarms.
Instead of Ford try to find a shop that installs car radios and alarms, they will be more familiar in how aftermarket alarms are wired and what to look for.

Here's the manual cover and the schematic.  I think it cuts the ignition according the diagram.

Was the override button the one in the picture under the dash?

yes! the little black button in the picture was the override button.

Sequence went like this... place key into accessory mode (alarm is screeching at this point), press and hold the override button for 3-5 seconds, alarm stops screeching and chirps twice, system is disarmed and was able to start the engine.

**I took the wonky key fob, wrapped it in a paper towel, and stashed in a folder in overhead compartment.**

Such a simple solution. So frustrating it took me 12 hours at the dump station to figure it out. Was telling Kevin - thankfully we weren't alongside a highway, stuck at a gas pump, or in front of the dump station on Sunday morning at 10am. lol!!

thank you all for the suggestions! I was ready for more in depth systems modification if this button wasnt the fix it and I felt armed with quite a few solutions to do so!

And - this guy could care less if we are at the dump station or 1000 feet away in our level / electric / picturesque site. He is always happy as long as he's with us :)

"I took the wonky key fob, wrapped it in a paper towel, and stashed in a folder in overhead compartment."

Here's a method I use: place the fob in an Altoids tin. The rigid box prevents any buttons from being pressed, and the metal enclosure guarantees that no radio waves can get out in any case. I use this for the remote opener for my storage room, to ensure that I don't accidentally open one of its two doors (which are 60 feet apart, so I might not notice) and drive away.

Altoids Andy? Do you actually eat those things so you can use the box?

No, I eat them (occasionally) because I like them (occasionally). But it's good to know that you can buy the boxes without printing. Thanks for that link!
