27 MB - Eliminate the cab over bed?
Does anyone know if LD allows for a change that would eliminate the cab over bed for the storage/entertainment like the 31 model?
Have an awesome day!

The website shows it as an option for the 24' FD and 27' RB models.

You can ask, but I'd be willing to bet the answer will be "NO!"  If you want a front entertainment center rather than the overhead bed, you'll have to select a floorplan that is already set up that way.

You have gotten good info about eliminating the cab over bed.  Allow me to toss out an alternative idea.  I have a Midbath.  I sleep on the couch, not on the cab-over bed.  I use the cab-over bed for storage.  I few years ago, I had three family members, all ladies, visit me for 18 days.  I moved the stored stuff to the cab passenger seat area and to my TOAD.  They used the cab-over bed and the dinette bed.  If I had had the cab-over bed removed and permanently converted that area to storage, they would not have been able to stay with me.

If your objective is to have an entertainment center in the loft area, then picking one of the right models will allow that.  If you just want to use the loft for storage, think about leaving it as a bed, and using it for storage unless and until someone comes to visit.

I agree with Ken F.  Leaving the cab over area as A bed and using it for storage gives you a lot of storage room.  You can reduce the bed size to have a more open cab (and storage space more
equivalent to the Entertainment area) or have the bed are full out and have about twice the storage area as the entertainment area.
Plus the flexibility to change things over time.
Simple storage bins work with a cargo net or bungee cords to hold them in place while driving.

I also now sleep on the couch and use the overcab bed as storage space. For me (and apparently for others), this is a practical solution that offers space for supplies, seasonal clothing, extra bedding, laundry bags, and "dog stuff", and makes climbing up and down the ladder in the middle of the night only a memory!

YMMV, as always.

Joan, when the kids were here, they loved the loft.  I'm like you - climbing up and down does not appeal...

The back (north) side of the cabover can take a lot of storage and still leave adequate room for one person to sleep up there.  That is, as long as you are somewhat agile and don't the ladder access...     Frank

Another option is to build a cabinet to fit in the space that doesn't change the bunk area, other than the removal of the mattress, allowing it to be returned to its original purpose.

By ordering doors, drawers and a sheet of veneer plywood, in the correct color, directly from LD, allows building something that looks Factory. It's an expensive option to keep it stock looking, worth it to many.

The frame was shop-built in pieces that were assembled inside the LD, it was a challenging project.
The cabinet can be disassembled and removed to return it back to the stock configuration as a bunk, after reinstalling the mattress.

You did a fine job Larry and we have enjoyed using it for many years.
As for having an entertainment center in that space, folks the entertainment is outside.

Good to know the construction has held up,  this was an interesting mental exercise, designing this large, one-of-a-kind cabinet so that could be installed in pieces, since the finished cabinet would not fit through the coach door or one of the windows.

Personally, I wouldn’t watch TV if it was located in the cabover; much more comfortable to sit on one of the comfy couches in the back than the dinette seats. Regarding sleeping, my family and I “fight” over who gets to sleep in the cabover bed. We all prefer it over the back beds.
