Update on the new 7.3L V8
Interesting numbers from 5 Star Tuning on this new engine. It's about the F53 setup but gives some idea of what this new engine is capable of.

The power output of that new engine looks promising. However, we will want to give it four or five years to get the bugs worked out.

From what I understand, this engine has been out for almost a year in the F-Series truck platform. So you could knock a year off that.

There seems to be differences in specs between the 7.3L V8 used in the F-series, including the F53, and the 7.3L V8 used in the 2021 E-450; the engine in the E450 is paired with the 6-speed transmission, not a 10-speed, and is also available in an "economy tune" model.

Joan, you are correct. Just like the v10 was 2-valve or 3-valve and different tunes depending upon the application. And, the V8 is mated with either the 6-speed or 10-speed transmission depending upon the application.

Charles, your LD is going on 14 years old now. Perhaps time for a new chassis?  ;D

Greg, have been seriously thinking about it. Have the resources but two plus years is a long wait, especially at our ages. I guess making the call wouldn't hurt.  ;)

Charles, the more I think about it, the more I'm thinking about waiting for the 2022 chassis as I don't want to be a chassis guinea pig. If you want my spot on the list (Aug 2019), it's yours!  :)

Greg, that is very thoughtful of you. Did you confirm a 2021 with LD? I thought I read here that LD had already committed to customers for all the 2021 chassis they were able to acquire and that they are building on those now and awaiting the 2022 chassis. Am I mistaken?

Charles, I had not heard that. The only thing Todd mentioned when I spoke to him about a month ago was that mine probably wouldn’t be delivered until 2021. We didn’t discuss the chassis year but I assumed it would be the first year of the new chassis. Guess I should of asked.

Hi Greg;  My understanding (been wrong before) was that both 2020 and 2021 chassis would be all considered 2021. The '22 chassis would be received usually June'ish 2022, and delivery in late 22, or early '23. That is kind of where I was planning to be, if I do indeed order new, and am still able to drive. A lot can happen in those intervening years. Thinking of that estate sale by auction on e-bay recently.    RonB

Looks like Ford is having problems, a recall, and part supply issues with the new 7.3L V8, not good.

Positive note, by the time people get to pick up there LD the problems might be solved.
Let's hope so. So far I have not seen any definitive determination of what the issues are with "plugs" and "wires". Some have mentioned coils. But supply chain issues are now rampant globally in all sectors and Ford is not at-fault for that.

These types of issues are undoubtedly common with new technological developments. Be that as it may, these ‘bumps in the road’ can have a potential back lash on smaller companies like Lazy Daze.

Having the common sense to take things slow may protect LD from suffering from Fords mistakes. It would be a real shame for the Mothership to loose it’s superior reputation because of vendor error.

The recent rise in LD pricing has apparently been caused by vendor relocation and associated costs in shipping and production.

One would think that the vendors move from California and the possible lowering of local taxes and other costs reduction could translate to maintaining production costs and shipment of products to LD.

Ford might have done everyone a huge favor by allowing RV manufactures the choice of the new V8 or the V10. There was a time when you could have the V10 or the Diesel engine installed. That’s probably just to simple of an idea.

Hopefully this current glitch will be resolved. The V10 had issues of its own over the years. I’m more concerned With how this will effect our beloved Mothership.

Hang tough LD.

I'd like to see the Mothership at least get close to normal production numbers in the coming months and through the year.  If that happens, there shouldn't be an issue.   I don't see finances as a problem but rather management's desire, or lack of, to continue in the current climate with the problems it faces.   The burden rests on the shoulders of one man who has options with regards to the future of LD.    Frank

Are you sure this apply to LD? Jayco Alante discussed in the link is based on F53

I looked at 2021 E recall and nothing new ... this is the last one Ford recalls model year 2021 E-350s and E-450s which is dated April, not even sure if LD received any of the 2021 chassis before then.

I did not say these problems apply to LD. But I believe the 7.3L V8 in the F53 is the same base engine in the E450. There is not much detailed information about the problems mentioned. I am sure LD would be aware if there are any of these issues with this engine in the E450s they have received.

There is not much detailed information about the problems mentioned. I am sure LD would be aware if there are any of these issues with this engine in the E450s they have received.

Both the E450 and F53 used the same 7.3L detuned engine. Interestingly, the E450 can also can be ordered with with a 7.3, "economy" version that producing 300-HP and 425-LBS of torque, almost identical to the V10.

Wonder how to tell the difference, to make sure your new LD has the higher output, "Premium" version.

A quick Google check shows little actual experience with the new engine, I found no mentions of spark plug wire issues.
Right now, every industry is having supply issues, it's quite possible Ford received a bad batch of spark plug wires, a problem that should be easy to solve.

For those who want even more power, the higher output, 430-HP, 7.3 is now available as a crate motor.
Pull out the lazy 350-HP version and install the more powerful version, all with stock Ford parts.

I can't imagine needing the extra power of the premium engine in a 24 ft motorhome, even if you tow.
