Mothership order - add ons? July 21, 2020, 07:07:54 am Hi All, I am going to reach out to the Mothership in the next few days to order a new shower dome for my 2000 30 IB. Having ordered 1 x before and as y'all know - its not as easy as ordering online from Amazon or such. Previous order included their recommended aluminum exterior polish, chrome wax, and the adhesive weather strip / piping for all my under storage units. This time around I am wondering -- is there anything you know, from experience, I should have on hand that I can only get at the Mothership? These would be "added on" to my shower dome order? I am sure there will be room in the box for a few little items and would rather be proactive and have any must haves on hand. Thanks all!!! Jodi

Reply #3 – July 21, 2020, 09:42:44 am If you have a flimsy fake wood insert that makes 1/2 of the sink into counter space, the factory has a newer plastic option that is a nice upgrade.Is your front escape hatch vent original?They sell a piece of trim that allows you to easily replace the original size of CO2 detector with the current shape/size. I couldn't find the same size anywhere else. A package of those might fit in your shower dome shipping box.If I was placing an order I would enquire about those plastic covers that cover the horizontal seams on the rear edge caps. That would cover up the usually unsightly caulking seam. This is where one edge cap overlaps the bottom edge cap.Steve K 1 Likes

In sunlight these clips weather, become brittle and break almost simultaneously. Once one goes, you might as well replace all of them, and I bought replacements from LD. I didn't like the metal hooks with sharp points either, so I washed the curtains, then sewed the new slides onto the curtain. Unscrewing a few hold down screws from one end of the metal track, allows all to slide out. Another thing I would order is window drainhole covers on the outside. This for the coaches without the thermal dual pane windows. 2002 and older. I painted the new ones with satin black paint, before installing them. The black colorant in the plastic fades to white. My old ones were 'crumbly' from UV exposure. The cover strip over the gap in the rear corner moldings are aluminum. The same exact thing that goes along the side of your rig to cover the seam between the wall and fiberglass skirts. If you buy it from LD it comes unbent and painted gloss white. You get to cut and bend it yourself. Reply #3 Experiment in End Cap Repair Many parts are generic motorhome parts and can be bought elsewhere. My 20+ year old TK has parts going bad now that even the mothership doesn't carry anymore. Rich; your comment about a trimstrip to cover a "CO2" detector, you have a CO detector. But I think you meant the propane detector. You can still get the same shape/size detector, so you don't need a trim strip. Reply #2 Propane Alarm The Taupe color goes un noticed after you get used to them. They automatically time out now with an 'end of life' mode. Little tidbits of advice so I don't have to wait for an issue and cant get what I need in a timely manner. But...I have questions now... My rig has a metal clip that holds the door open. it looks like its been replaced / modified a few times. We had to pry the clip open / or squeeze the male portion closed (not sure what my dad did) to get it so we didn't have to slam the door open to get it to stick. It was such a tight fit that the aluminum siding was bending when we tried to latch the door into the open position. I think the plastic clip might be more accommodating and less "stiff". Ideas if I have a metal clip now and pros / cons of replacing it with a plastic clip if / when it fails?I don't have any sort of kitchen sink insert. The sink has a larger basin on the left and smaller - more shallow basin on the right. I imagine this is original. You think the Mothership will know what I am talking about and assuming its the original get me the right sink insert? The LD is not with me right now / its in storage - so I cant measure.I am pretty sure the curtain glides and curtains are original so great idea to replace as this rig lived in CA and AZ before WI. Lots of sun damage. We (I mean my dad) already replaced the propane sensor. Got one off Amazon and it fit like a glove. My dad said no problems with replacing it. Pretty sure the propane sensor was also original. so was on my priority list for safety sake. I attached a pic of the one we used for replacement if anyone is looking. My end cap covers are all intact and not cracked. Should I still get a length of that stuff. Do you designate how many inches / feet you want? When they ship it - does it come in a long section (ie - you think it would fit in the box with the shower dome cover?)

Over time I changed them out due to breakage. The plastic, although more accommodating as far as closure goes, will not last due to age and use, the plastic just does not hold up.I finally replaced the originals with the metal type. Problem solved... except for the fact, as you noted, that it does not seat as easily as the plastic ones. The fix is frequent lubrication. WD-40 does not work too well and what I use, whenever the thing gets stubborn is, Silicone Spray, found in any hardware store. It will also be helpful to spread or close the two parts until you get the proper fit. 1 Likes
Re: Mothership order - add ons? Reply #14 – July 22, 2020, 03:03:55 am Steve S. is right. The plastic receiver clip lasts a year or so. I carry a few around with me. They are getting harder to find. Stay with the metal one. Your dad probably squeezed the male part together to make it smaller. An easier fit in the clip. Two one foot pieces of that aluminum strip would be good. It is pretty tricky to bend it just right without beating it to death. I would curve it over a 2x4 in a vice. Then cut the ends off to fit. Especially the part where the vise jaws mangle the strip. I file it down, drill and champher the holes for the flat head screws, and then repaint it with gloss white.You need to round the edge of the 2x4 first. Better is to ask LD to make it for you. They must have a way to get it pretty close there. RonB 1 Likes

One of the common complaints with our rigs is a warped entry door. Sometimes the warped door was caused by a gust of wind slamming the door against that door holder post. Then you will be researching how to fix a warped door. You may as well look it up now so you and your support staff are prepared for it. It happens Steve K 2 Likes

Was one of the first things that we fixed. It does go in much easier now and we were using the silicone lubricant too. One question I forgot to ask... I dont think I have any of the window drain hole covers mentioned above. Does anyone have a picture for reference? The little slits at the bottom of the windows by the tracks are currently just open to the outside.

I talked to Todd today and ordered the shower dome, the door holder opener clip, the glides for the cab privacy curtain, and end cap aluminum seam covers. Todd said they would pre bend the seam covers for me and I will probably have to make some minor adjustments to get them to fit well. Still seems better to me than getting them all crimped up by my novice bending and likely less than ideal tools. For future reference - he said they do not have the sink inserts. And referred me to contact Hehr International ( Hehr International ) for the weep hole covers. We are going camping in a few weeks so will be with the camper then and will inspect and count the weep holes and then contact the company. Total cost of this shipment to WI is $325.70. Not sure what the exact breakdown is ( i am sure it will be on the handwritten receipt). But, the dome cover is $225 - I think this is before shipping.Thanks again!! Jodi

Why would you want to cover them when they, I thought, are supposed to allow moisture to drain away from the windows? They do need cleaning occasionally because they fill up with debris. Perhaps windows have changed over the years and require covers now???Chris 1 Likes

Reply #22 – July 23, 2020, 11:34:47 pm I would not plug the weep holes in the window frames; they are designed to allow any moisture that may collect in the channel to drain to the outside (as Chris pointed out). The weep holes can be cleaned out using popsicle sticks (craft sticks) or a blast from an air hose. 1 Likes

I never understood the reason why they were needed. The caps make it more difficult to keep the drains clean. If the drains clog and your rig is exposed to a wind-driven, sideways rain, the plugged drains can allow water to overflow into the interior.Larry 1 Likes

Where I live, near the ocean, I get a morning marine layer dew daily. Cars driving by deposit dust that settles on the windows, and drips out the slots. I've newver had to clean out a weep hole.
