2021 Ford Chassis
Has LD produced any units with this chassis yet? I was wondering if there was any ride, handling, MPG or quietness changes with the new truck?  I have been on the build list for 14 months and waiting for the call or packet.

There are a couple of us on this list who are slated to receive 2021 chassis.  I think Mike Coachman is the earliest one who has been posting here.  He's scheduled for delivery in about 6 weeks.

Hopefully mine will be sometime soon afterwards, but the covid stoppage at Ford delayed the chassis arriving at LD by two months.

no hands on experience but VIN number I received from mothership yield following information about safety features on new chassis. few surprises for me, hope i am reading it correctly ...

I’d be very surprised if all those items were on your particular chassis. It’s an impressive lineup of safety features! This looks like a list of available options. — Jon

Let me be fat and happy for few months :-) or at least till somebody receive 2021 model and share details. I agree with you, this list is too good to be true.

Impressive that commercial cutaway have soo many available safety features. Before deciding on LD, I looked seriously at Tiger on Ford F and Speinter based Sports Mobile class B and came back to LD for other reasons. I will be happy with whatever I get to make driving easier. I never drove anything except for cars and these trucks are timidating.

If a location is convenient, RV riving lessons from the RV School may be of interest:

RV School

I had driven several types of vehicles on the ranch, including trucks and tractors, and had a tent trailer and a small class C, but when I picked up my LD (in 2003), I signed up for driving lessons, figuring that I still had plenty to learn. 

My instructor was a retired OTR driver with 2 million accident-free miles, patient, knowledgeable, and skilled, and for 4 hours each day for two days, I drove around the L.A. freeways, maneuvered into small, crowded parking lots, gas stations, and side streets, practiced backing and turning and judging distances, heights, clearances, lane positioning, and learning the importance of GOAL! The instructor gave frequent tips for different types of road and weather conditions, and crammed a lot of "road savvy" into my head during those 8 hours!

I recommend taking a driving course; learning with a patient instructor can build skills and confidence!

I am been reading this forum for couple of years and am very thankful to you, Larry, Ron and many many many more members here for helping newbies like us. I was on bed for few years recovering from my misery and one day I accidently saw Andy's travel log which opened few more venues ... story for some other time but I would not have signed up for RV lifestyle if I had not been reading here. I digress as usual ... will simply say all of you are very kind with your time and with sharing your experiences and knowledge.

As for driving school, this is on my list to arrange.  I am also planning on renting a truck in advance for driving practice. We are still few months away but getting the VIN information has created some excitement.

PS: Reading here gave me lot of bookish knowledge but I am sure I will have lot of question once I get the motorhome and search engine will be my best friend.

I have read some good reviews of the new Ford Transit gas chassis on smaller C plus RV's as to ease of handling and power.

I think that the Ford Transit could make a good base for a "B" type rig; the maximum GVWR of the Transit is 10,360 pounds. The weight limitations don't seem to stop manufacturers from porking up the "boxes", and real world weight numbers on these units can be very difficult to find.  :(

This may not interest everyone but I learned Chevy has discontinued there cut-a-way chassis. It had some advantages over Ford but was far less popular. Gulfstream, Forest River, and Thor were building on the chassis. Is Chevy done with the RV industry or are they coming out with a new chassis? This could create a higher demand for the Ford chassis making it harder to get.

If LD's allotment of trucks drops before a certain number, that will be it.     Frank

They need to be able to  build a certain number of motorhomes a year to make the operation worthwhile.  If production drops too far due to a lack of supply of trucks, the doors could be closed.   Ford Motor Company may or may not be concerned about this matter.    Frank
