I finally got my awning repaired. I ordered the two shock absorbers and the eye from Fiamma.

As it turned out, only the right shock absorber was broken; the left one is not broken and looks ok, and the awning works very well with one new and one old shock absorber. Would it be better to also exchange the left part (since I have it anyway)?  I don't really see a reason to do that, but maybe there are good reasons to do it that I don't know about.

PS: I'm happy that the awning works again and was not difficult to repair.

I would replace both of them now so that they are the same age, and, more importantly - if it is convenient to do it now, the task will be done while the method is still fresh in your mind, instead of at a time that may NOT be so convenient, and the location of the part and method to install are not quite so fresh in your mind.

While I don't have that brand of awning I have to presume that you are talking about 'plastic' parts! Plastic ages with time and becomes brittle. Given that one failed I'd believe you can expect the second one to follow soon. I 2nd the motion to do it now!   ::)

Steve, have you replaced yours? Ours is a 2004 with the Fiamma, though it may be branded otherwise..

The plastic shock absorber is a wear item, I would change it at your convenience, not when it breaks, as it eventually will.
