Re: Removing window screens Reply #1 – May 29, 2020, 09:36:42 am Lift the screen out of the track, hose it off (use a soft brush if there screen is really dirty; gently), dry the screen, then replace the screen in the track. Fit the top of the screen into the track first, then the bottom; make sure that the screen is seated in the correct track; this will be obvious if it slides easily and doesn't pop out when you try to slide it. (Clean and lube the tracks when the screens are removed.) 3 Likes

A year ago I removed all the screens and cleaned them for the 1st time in 17 years. I had wiped them off previously without removal. I had to replace a handful of screen clips which had broken over the years. Because of the age of our LDs, the clips are brittle and your chances of breaking some when removing/replacing the screens are high. I had a handful from the Mothership on hand and used them. The screens don't use "screen clips"; the screens on a 2003 (until ? or still?) have two spring-mounted legs on the bottom of the screen that retract and hold the screen in the track by pressure. I checked mine & have, on the top of the screen, what looks like a "V" shaped springy mechanism with little flat "feet" that fits in the top track. Is this a spring or a clip? Is it black plastic or metal? It looks somewhat similar to the Hehr clip for radius corners in Joan's link.I don't want to "test" it/break it, but if it's plastic & prone to becoming brittle/deterioration, I'd follow Chris's suggestion to order some spares. I'm assuming (cognizant of what that can make me ) metal would be less prone to deterioration requiring spare parts on hand...Thx, Lynne

Is this a spring or a clip? Is it black plastic or metal?----Well, I've slipped another cog; the little spring is on the TOP of the screen as Lynne points out, not the bottom. Sorry for any confusion (including my own)! It's a plastic spring; Chris's 2002 uses clips. One of today's rig "projects" is screen washing, window track cleaning and lubing, making sure that the window frame channel holes are clear, and washing the interiors of the windows. A very few of the multitudes of little joys of RV maintenance. 2 Likes
