I looked up the differences in measurement; 40 mil is 1.016 mm.In this country, sheet plastic is normally measured in mils, and sheet metal is measured in 'gauge' numbers.Sheet Metal Gauge Chart | Metal Supermarkets - Steel, Aluminum, Stainless,...The sheet aluminum used in LD's roofs measures 40mils, 26 gauge is the closest size.When LD first upgraded to the wide-body E450s, the aluminum sheet metal used on the roof had to be sourced from Europe, they could not get the metal in wider rolls here and is the reason why it was listed in mils. The Europeans evidently measure sheet metal differently, using mils instead of a gauge size.Larry 1 Likes
