Full timers and Corona
We have friends that sold their home last year and are in the middle of a two year see America RV trip. I can’t help feeling bad for them and wonder what they are going to do now with no home to go to. Everything and I mean  everything is shutting down and I have visions of these people being in places that don’t want them and parking in rest stops until they are told to move along. I’d be interested to hear how full timers in here are dealing with this.

I have been full-time in my rig for over a year now. I have gotten accustomed to my small 26 foot home on wheels. I was staying at the BLM Imperial Dam LTVA outside of Yuma, Arizona, over the winter, but recently moved onto the US Army Yuma Proving Ground RV park. I moved to base about a week before all the hoopla about the virus, and glad I did.

The RV park here already has tight rules as it only accepts guests who are Military Service Members or retirees. As of about 4 days ago, the base does not allow access to anyone who does not live or work here. The RV park is not accepting new guests now because of the virus.

If I were on a tour of the US I would follow the weather. Boondocking is easy to get accustomed too, fun, and an excellent way to save money. If you get sick, you would be able to choose your hospital with the convenience of your house in the parking lot. Hospitals are limiting visiting hours for guests to family members who have the virus.

Joe, most military RV parks impose time limits. Will you be able to stay indefinitely?

Good point,  Army Regulation states max stay is 7 months here on Yuma Proving Ground...just in time for the winter season, or I find other housing. Although, on-base RV parks have the option to impose their own time limits. The old saying goes, “you can always add to, but never take away”. Navy or Air Force bases most likely fall under their respective regulations, and not sure the details.

I did see a note on the RV park office door that said something to the effect, RV park visitors can stay an extra month if need be. I believe they would not kick anyone out if they needed to stay.

Yes, in lapaz now. BLM has posted online that as of 4/15 no services. They anticipate worker shortages. I think we can stay as long as we can find services nearby.

I boondock so don't have to worry about finding an RV park.
I travel with a buddy and for the last 10 days we went from Tucson to Austin, Texas.
And from Austin up to Flagstaff, AZ. We stayed in rest areas along the way, a Walmart one night and
tonight we are at the closed Twin Arrows casino on I-40 outside Flagstaff. Parking lot is deserted.
We have a spot down near Munds Park that we have been using for a few years now.
It's early for us to be here but we wanted to be in a familiar spot until things are better known.
We have plenty of food, water and other supplies and have been limiting our fresh grocery runs to once every 10 days.
And, instead of going to a variety of stores, we are using Sprouts Farmers Market for everything for now.

Overall, I think being a full timer is an advantage. We are used to being self sufficient and this is just being more prepared than usual.

bconnor91 - When I was in quartzsite a couple years ago, there was a dump and water station in town, maybe at a gas station.... I forget.  Likely they would be open as they were a regular retail place.
But it will get hot at some point enough to want air conditioning, likely late May/June depending on your tolerance.

AZ just did a stay at home order.  Not yet published (will be soon), but details will be published at:
Arizona Department of Health Services

News article is at:  AZ news story on stay at home order
AZ is still on the low end but it is nice to see them being proactive.

In Flagstaff, there is a Conoco station with free dump and water.
On the road, we like Love's travel stops. My buddy has a big class A diesel pusher
and it's easier for him to refuel at a truck stop. They have dump stations at most of them now.
I've been full timing and boondocking for more than 12 years now, I have it down pretty well.

A week ago: "AZ is on the low end of reported cases and no signs of a lock down at this point (the increased availability of testing is creating big rises in the number of reported cases all over including here)."

Tonight: "AZ just did a stay at home order."  AZ is still on the low end but it is nice to see them being proactive."

It seems to me a week ago, a 'stay at home order' would have been proactive when increased testing was showing big rises in the number of reported cases. Not now though.

I'm in a full timer park in SW NM. Most usually go back North for the cooler season but now they are afraid their own States wont let them in.
Looks like they are staying here and deal with the heat. Full timers aren't moving around. Park is Full mostly and any one coming in is met with suspicion to Not be acting foolish or partying etc.

MO went over 1K cases today, but our Governor is still behind the curve on a 'stay at home order'; KS has much lower reported cases, but KS Gov./mayors in KC & St. Louis were proactive last week & took flak from GOP legislators in MO & KS.

Arizona gets a lot of revenue from the snowbird crowd and I’m sure was reluctant to rock the boat in their prime earning period.

I agree with others, waiting until 1000 or so cases before "stay at home" order ... IMO should have been closer to 100 cases.
However....

CDC just announced when things will loosen from "stay at home".
Trigger for Moving to Phase IIA state can safely proceed to Phase II  when it has achieved all the following:•  A  sustained  reduction  in  cases  for  at  least  14  days;  •  Hospitals  in  the  state  are  safely  able  to  treat  all  patients  requiring  hospitalization  without  resorting to crisis standards of care22; • The state is able to test all people with COVID-19symptoms; and• The state is able to conduct active monitoring of confirmed cases and their contacts.2

Full documentation is at:
CDC Road Map to Recovering.pdf

Again, I personally would have liked to see this sooner.  Though last weekend we went out for coffee (pick up at window, wandered to a bench on the street to enjoy the weather) and in 15 min we saw few people, so people already were staying at home more (gyms, restaurants except for takeout/deliver, etc. were already closed previously).

Bill, I agree, IMO the U.S. should have been more proactive.  However, it is really hard to know what is really going on.  The increased testing is showing higher numbers, but... were they there all along for months and just showing now with testing, or are they new recent illnesses (more concerning).

Very limited testing was being done because tests were not available (in many areas, not just AZ).  So likely we had thousands of cases before very many were actually tested.  In general I was hearing things like (not necessarily tied to just AZ) .... we are not testing at hospitals because the treatment is the same no matter the disease...  Stay home unless you are much worse than a typical virus (e.g. respiratory problems) .....  There was just no testing set up to know how many people were getting sick.

I liked Germany's way of dealing with things.  Came up with test months ago and tested Everyone!  - doing 20,000 tests a day, isolating those that tested positive.  Not everyone got tested (at least one family didn't want to infect others waiting in line for the test) but tons more were tested than here.  They show a .5% rate of death, lower than other places that have not done as extensive testing.

Bottom line we won't have real accurate information for years until we have all been tested for antibodies and have a better idea of the mild and asymptomatic cases.

Of note though, is that people in other countries got hit harder by serious diseases spreading in the last years/decade (sars, bird flu, eboli, etc.), so they were more prepared this time around.  We didn't get affected as seriously so it was not unexpected that our country got more lax.  (I am not saying I agree with that action, I am saying I understand.)

I personally have friends in Germany (Germans) and they are dealing with this like we are and no they have not been tested.
Do they have symptoms?
Do they say that Germany is testing everyone people with symptoms (since if they didn't get tested it is obvious they are not testing everyone)?
Do they have plenty of testing available for those that have symptoms and want it?

They are doing a lot more testing than we are - now doing 500,000 tests a week.
Germany 'increases its COVID-19 tests to 500,000 per week' | Euronews

Compared to US (again information is difficult to gather as the article states) How many people each state has tested for coronavirus so far - SFGate

Since CDC and John Hopkins say that testing is critical, we can't know what we are dealing with unless we have the testing info, I still think Germany's approach was better than ours.

Part of the problem is the Countries (leaders/whoever) are giving statements and it might not match reality - some news agencies say based on social media that China is now believed to be misreporting (under reporting) their current situation.
