That’s the problem with a one size fits all policy. Most sections of Spokane’s Centennial Trail are very lightly used even in peak season. Putting the same regulations on this side of the Cascades as the west side where it’s very crowded doesn’t make sense.
As more information on Corona comes out it’s looking like the 3% number is wildly inflated and it’s more likely closer to 1% and the vast majority of those deaths are people with underlying conditions.

Kind members, let's chill a bit and take some deep breaths. This forum is not geared to be a clearing house for COVID-19 statistics, data, cures, precautions and especially unscientific opinions and conspiracy theories. I've deleted a couple of posts which I judged to be inflammatory and misleading. I (we) don't like to do that and rarely do. These are hard times. Can we please try to keep this thread about RV travel which is affected by the current worldwide crisis.

A good information source is Johns Hopkins

One size lockdown is the least bad option.  The goal is to slow the virus progression down enough that there are enough ICU beds and respirators for those who need them.   I haven't seen anything on recovery time - how long does it take to recover someone to where the respirator can be shifted to the next person.   Say you have 2 respirators and 8 people are going to need them.  If you slow the virus so that only 2 of the 8 are sick at the same time,  all 8 will have a reasonable survival chance.  If all 8 present at the same time,  6 will die from a lack of resources.

The El Dorado County Health Officer issued a directive that driving to Tahoe to play in the snow  (See link here)  is not considered essential travel and puts the population around Tahoe at risk.  That is what they are trying to avert.

Nobody's a happy camper in this, except maybe the animals getting extra attention.

I expect Dora, Sam and Zeke are getting a lot of extra attention from you now, Joel, and loving every minute. It was nice to meet them in Morro Bay.

Please do not come to California, Oregon, or Washington.  The governors in each of these states have issued stay at home orders.  We are trying to get people to stay home and not spread the virus.  All non essential businesses are closed.  All non essential travel is being enforced and RV travel would be in that category. All parks and recreations sites are closed.  One posting called this hysteria, but actually it is called a pandemic, and people are dying.  Our doctors, nurses, and hospitals are barely coping and the supplies they have been promised from the federal government are not being delivered.  There is a shortage of ventilators nationwide, and now there is talk that they would choose to use those on younger people that could possibly survive rather than using them on the older population.  (Many of us fall into that category.)  You can be with a person that is infected and has no symptoms,  yet is shedding the virus, and then you could become sick....very sick.  There is no cure.  Traveling at this time is not worth risking your life.  Stay home, stay safe.
FWIW, Colorado Governor just also issued a stay at home order.

I'll have to recant my previous post where I stated the inland north west has plenty of nice campsites up any logging road. Washington just closed all forest roads and trails which begs the question, is hunting an essential activity? Many people rely on the spring bear hunt to refill their freezer after a winter of depleting their supply of venison.

I checked CA campgrounds.  They are not allowing anyone to see reservations until middle April (I am guessing that is their closed for sure until date - I expect that to extend).  China is now removing some restrictions including their initial hot spots after 2 months.   We moved our reservation out a month (someone else had canceled) since that would be over 2 months from when the US started shutting down.

The campsites are still there - you just can't get to them.  You can still go fishing along the rivers, so I imagine the case for subsistence hunting can be made.  Be sure and take a trailer,  It'd be hard getting it thru the LD door.

Actually Washington just shut down all fishing. The supposed reason is game wardens would have to have one on one contact to check licenses so hunting is probably next.

This just in! All our dates for Watchman in Zion were canceled by the powers that be.  We were pretty excited to have some nice river side sites from May 3-15. Not happening this season.

Still good to go for Yellowstone in September. 🥳

Technically, our late May trip to Kauai is still on as the airline has not canceled the flight as of yet, however, if California and Hawaii keeps the mandatory travel restrictions in place, I guess we won’t be going. On the bright side, look at all the money we’ll save!  ;)

Aloha!

Regarding Hawaii travel, all visitors flying to Hawaii must complete a 14 day quarantine upon arrival.  Travelers are to proceed directly from the airport to their designated quarantine location.  Only leaving for medical emergencies.  Food to be delivered.  The information I read hawaiinewsnow.com said the quarantine is in effect indefinitely and anyone breaking the mandate can face a $5,000 fine and up to a year in jail.  So, I would check before you go there unless you really love the interior of your accommodations.  Everyone stay safe.

I had a white water rafting trip booked for June. Cancelled it yesterday. I was really looking forward to it but don't have any real choice in the matter. Oh well.

Thanks, Jo Anne. That’s what I had heard also. Although our accommodations are beach-front cottages, we would cancel if the restrictions are still in place. On the flip side, I’m getting some really good offers on car rentals right now!

Continuing to shelter in place. Really not so bad . . .

Sawyer, I’m thinking rural areas are the best place to be during times like these. Haven’t heard of anyone flocking to the cities.

My wife and I took a walk yesterday and were looking at at the remains of an old log cabin on our land that deteriorates a bit more each winter. Its about 12X16 and had a dirt floor but was well chinked. I remarked how spoiled we were whining about being quarantined in our by comparison luxurious home with indoor plumbing, television, cell phones, internet and even wood floors. LOL
We are total sissies compared to those people.

Sawyer,

Cyndy and I used to see cabins like that when we were young and remark "Look!  A house we can afford!"

"I'm thinking rural areas are the best place to be during times like these."

Until you need medical care. Or somebody else does.

Multiple reports indicate rural and small-town dwellers emphatically do not want tourists descending upon their towns right now. I don't blame them.

If you think about it, the last thing a small town with maybe one general practitioner needs is to have a bunch of potentially infected outsiders show up. If you think city hospitals are overtaxed (and they are), think about that lone rural GP. It's going to be all they can do to take care of their own townspeople. They won't have the time, equipment, or medications to cope with you if you get sick.

Put it this way: how many ventilators do you think there are in Lone Pine or Truth or Consequences?

To your point, Andy, Jackson Hole has asked that visitors and second home owners please stay away, for precisely the reason you state!

Be a tough call if you had a second home in some beautiful place and a primary residence in a crappy place. Naturally you would want to be in the nice place if you are confined to quarters. Not sure what I would do in that situation.
Preppers have bug out homes that I’m sure they are going to use despite local sentiment. Speaking of preppers nobody is laughing and rolling their eyes at them now I bet.
