Blue ox rebuild
  We just returned from Morro Bay where we had a great trip. We enjoyed talking to old and new friends and found some new to us restaurants in the area that were fantastic.
  We left early in the morning on Monday for our return trip to Downey. We got home before the rain about noon successfully.
Upon disconnecting our Jeep Wrangler I noticed some looseness in the front swiveling knuckle of the tow bar.
  My question is, has anyone had to have maintenance done on their tow bar or rebuilt theirs themselves? What are some of your experiences in doing so? I have a Blue ox, BX 7335, Aventa ll, 10,000 LB. CAPACITY tow bar. I’m trying to find someone that will rebuild it with new washers, nuts and bolts. So far I’ve called the factory and they told me the don’t rebuild them if they are more than 8 years old. They do, however sell the parts for it even though this model was discontinued in 2004, or so. I’ve checked around the L. A. area without any success in finding anyone who will work on them. I would at least like to have someone look at it and assess its condition. It’s not something I want to take a chance with coming apart.

We have rebuilt an Aventa LX twice.  There are some critical torque values and (IMHO) the standard rebuild kit is not sufficient if it's the ball model.  You need to replace the shank with the ball as well since the ball wears down.

Personally, by the time you do that, you're almost better off just getting a new tow bar (perhaps a nice Demco or Ready Brute one). 

That said, I believe we purchased the Aventa LX rebuild kit and the new shank and ball (it's all one part) from eTrailer.  If you go that route, be sure to measure the shank length you need as there are 3 different ones.  I don't know if they would have rebuild parts for an Aventa II, though.  That's at least a 16 year old tow bar.  I'd say you got your $'s worth from it  ;)

  Ours is the Aventa ll. It isn’t the one that has the ball,but, thanks for the tip to check with Etrailer. I’ll see if they have a rebuild kit. Still looking for someone to do the job. Thanks and be well.

We stopped at the Blue Ox factory in Pender, NE, last year to have them check and rebuild our Aventa LX because the ball connection was developing some looseness.  They basically said that the ball was too worn and they no longer made or had any replacement parts.  We ended up with a new Avail tow bar.

I ended up finding the parts I needed at the Blue ox website.  Swivel bolt with washers and nylon core lock nut. The sold the kit for $12.
