Lo beam headlights out. Is it a fuse?
Hi group. Just discovered both headlights are out. I do have hi-beams, so I'm thinking  it is probably a fuse, but it seems a little strange both are out. According to the manual, each headlight has it's own fuse. Too late tonight to change out the fuses, but I'm also wondering if there is something else I should consider if the fuses are not the problem. Would I still have hi-beams if the headlight itself was burned out?

Thanks

Checking fuses is a good first step. But I also wonder: could it be your headlight switch? That's something that would affect both headlights at once.

Hey Andy, nice to hear from you. Thanks for that suggestion. It very well could be, but I don't really know where that would be located. I'll check the fuses tomorrow, but if it isn't that I will probably have to take it in. Is the switch easily located? BTW, I'm a 2005 26.5 mid bath with the E450 V10. Or did you actually mean the actual on/off push/pull switch? (I do know where that is). I was thinking you were referring to one of the modules under the hood.

Thanks,
David

Hi David. I don't know if the 2005 and the 2007 have the same wiring. I have the factory 2007 E-Series wiring diagram and it shows the low-beams each have a 10A fuse at F25 and F31 in the Central Junction Box (the hi-beams have one common 15A fuse at F30 in that box). Tracing the low-beam circuit back further it terminates at the multifunction switch, AKA headlight switch. The odds of both low-beam fuses blowing are low. I would check the low-beam wiring (red-black) between the Central Junction Box and the switch and the switch itself.

Thanks Charles. I replaced the fuses which made no Change. Next is the switch.

I was referring to the multifunction switch that Charles mentioned.

Thanks Andy. I determined it is not the fuses, but I can’t seem to clearly find the red/black wire or the switch itself, but at least I have more info for the shop when I bring it in.

Thanks,

The mystery continues. This morning before leaving the RV park, I checked the headlights one last time and they were on! It may be that the light switch is going out or perhaps a short in the wire. My mechanic, before I left, said he found a few rodent droppings under the hood but could not locate any damage. I’ll have to monitor the situation for a while.

Damn packrats.  They love to eat the vacuum lines in the valley of the engine as well.

David, the multifunction switch is the stalk on the left side of the steering column.
