Power Door Lock Disable Switch

Our problem is that when camped, our dainty kitty uses the door armrests when transitioning to the dash, and often unlocks the front doors in the process. I decided to add a switch to disable those lock switches while in camp, and it is also a useful mod if your pet accidentally LOCKS the doors when the keys are inside...

The schematic showed me disconnecting a certain single wire from the driver's switch assembly would serve the purpose, so I cut and spliced a single-pole single-throw (spst) 25 Amp 12V switch into that line to the driver's door switches, a brown wire for our '04 E-450.

The switch I used I had already, and it has a red LED incorporated, so I hooked a wire from the LED ground terminal on the switch to a convenient ground point in the door. The switch has spade terminals, so I crimped insulated female spade terminals to each wire end connecting to the switch. I cut a hole in the door panel in a convenient location for the new switch.

The pictures show the final result, how the assembly pries up fron the back end, and two images of the brown wire I cut for the project. The LED on the new switch lights up briefly when it is in the active position, and the door lock button is pressed to 'lock'. It is not a necessary feature.

Nice fix, you get a thumbs up!
Dogs and cats locking or unlocking the door is a common problem, this is great solution for pet owners willing to venture into their LD's wiring.
The fix require cutting one wire and crimping on new ends on them to connect to a new lighted, push-button switch, mounted on the door panel, just below the window and door lock switches.
Steve used the Ford Factory Service Manual's schematic to pinpoint the simplest way of accomplishing this .

Now if you can only remember to activate that new switch everything will be cool!   :D

That is a good fix.  I was camping on a farm.   I got out to close the gate after going through it, I got out to and some how in hurrying up so the cows would not get out (they were in the field next to the farm house where I would be camping) I must have hit the lock button.  I closed the gate and got a little worried.  Luckily I had unlocked the house door when doing a gas stop before getting to the camp. Now I make a point of carrying a second door key off the key chain in my pocket.

I did that very thing with the pickup at the farm a few weeks ago--grrrr...arrrgh :P  :-[  :-[   I had numerous clients in the Dept. of Corrections who were adept at "liberating" vehicles, & I had enough practice to find the sweet spot when fishing with a hanger on my old minivan, but no joy with the pickup (it was a $50 lesson for <15 minutes of the locksmith's time  :P ).

I do keep a spare LD key wired inside the louvered refrigerator door, since that doesn't require a key for access.

Our LD came with a wooden hinged cover over the controls on the door. I am thinking it was for a dog or cat.

That looks like a pretty simple fix, I could use something like that in the CRV to prevent my passenger from lowering the windows!

Now if I could only figure a way to keep Cedar from blowing the LD horn in the wee hours of the morning!   :o   ::)

Thx, Steve & Larry.  Definitely a fix for the pickup--can't blame that recent lockout on the 4-Legged Alarm who was not present (I apparently hit the button while grasping the armrest during the slide out of the seat as my short legs searched for terra firma.
