Looked in great shape with nice large windows and aluminum skin a la LD. I would have guessed from 50s/60s Jetson era than 70s disco era when built. I admire the creativity and skill of the builder that created this functional work of art.Rich

Re: Unusual RV Reply #159 – October 10, 2018, 12:20:49 pm Larry,The GM Futurliner would make the Ultimate RV if but for a few things...speed of travel, Campground access and MPG. Not that any of those things would matter to the likes of Jay Leno.Knowing the state of many of the Futurliners when restoration begins and the actual usable space when completed, I suppose a Giant truck is not completely out of the question. (Note: After a bit of a search, it looks as though the flat bed Futurliner is in its original configuration). Still it would be nice to see one converted into the UltraLD. 😎Hope you can talk to the owners. Maybe they’re on YouTube by now.Ok so I couldn’t resist. Re: Unusual RV Reply #160 – October 10, 2018, 08:13:07 pm The one big shortcoming of the Futurliners was that they were pitifully underpowered. Although they weighed twelve tons, they were originally powered by a four-cylinder Diesel engine, then in the early Fifties, repowered with a 302 CID straight-six gas engine. Wikipedia's Futurliner article lists the top speed of the original version as 40 mph, and of the later one as 50 mph.
