Fiamma Awning Popping Out
Has anyone else had the problem where the lead bar on the awning box pops out while in transit - see attached picture.  This problem occurred on our 2002 MB.  And now after 2 years it has occurred on our 2017 MB.  The awning opens and closes just fine.  Then randomly pops out while driving.  i’ve inspected the area for any obstruction or debris.  Now I’m wrapping the box with straps just as I had with the 2002 MB.  Oh well.

Glenn,

Ours does the same thing. At first I thought it was due to the support arm feet being tucked away incorrectly, but like yours ours will eventually open a small amount.

Yesterday, I attempted to push the left end back in place but to no avail. So far the awning has remained in place during travel.

Perhaps the manufacturer brochure or YouTube can provide an answer.

Enjoying a hot cup of coffee and the views in Yosemite Valley.

Last summer I contacted Flamma about the same issue.  They knew about this and offered a treatment which I questioned, but which worked for me.  They told me to run the awning out all the way, then put one layer of duct tape for each 1/4" of gap onto the roller surface at the end with the gap.  For a gap smaller than 1/4", do half the end of the roller rather than doing the entire circumference.  I did two layers for my 1/2" gap.  It worked.

There wouldn't be much to see in a pic, just a piece of duct tape about 7" long wrapped around the end of the roller, at the end where the gap was or, in my case, two pieces, one on top of the other.  It makes the end of the roller just a tiny bit larger in diameter.  As a result, each turn of the roller takes up a bit more awning than it had before, and the end of the awning closes, rather than having a gap.

With time and use, the awning's fabric stretches, usually one side stretches more than the other.
Post 2004 LD Fiamma awnings have an adjusment at the rear of the roller (red ring) for slightly increasing or decreasing the roller's diameter, allowing adjustment when one end of the awning does not roll in all the way .
Duct tape was the traditional way of increasing the roller's diameter and it was used to fix this problem on older awnings.
Our 2003's awning has been adjusted this way more than once.

That’s the same guidance I received from Flamma and it also worked for us.

I took a look at mine yesterday and it appeared to be a two person job. One person on a step stool ready with the tape and one to slowly crank in the awning. Is this correct?

No, adding strips of duct tape it can be done by a single person. It is the standard way of adjusting the awning pull-in on older Fiamma awnings that came without the "red wheel" or when the fabric stretches more than what can be adjusted with the wheel alone.

Kent, with the awning out all the way so the roller is fully exposed, you simply wrap the duct tape around the roller.  It is an easy one person job, but a step stool or step ladder is quite useful.

Just one of the many uses of duct tape, no doubt!  ;D

Thanks for the duct tape solution suggestion.  I also pulled out my Fiamma manual.  Back in the troubleshooting area there's a fix for "Lead Bar does not close on the side opposite the winch."  See attachments.  So I guess I'll try one or the other solution.
