Wondering if anyone has needed to repair hail damage on their Lazy Daze?

I have replace a few roof hatches and refrigerator vent covers, shattered by hail. Surprisingly, I have never seen a solar panel damaged by hail, but with large enough hail, even the thick glass will break.  I have heard of windshields being broken by hail.
Some roofs look like they have been struck a thousand times with a ball peen hammer.

What kind of damage are you thinking about?

The original owners of my LD replaced some of the plastic parts (A/C Cover) and were left with small dents across parts of the roof.  The had a white self-leveling non-slip compound applied by a RV repair shop in an attempt to level things out.  The job was well done and worked out OK although I suspect it would have been fine without it too.

Mostly just curious about others' experiences since we live in an area where hailstorms happen often.

Were caught in large hail storm (3 1/2") near San Antonio at a LD rally in our 2005 MB.  There were several dents in the roof that we were concerned about, but the mothership said they were cosmetic.

I was sitting in my CRV on Main Street in Fredericksburg when there came a terrific hail storm. No damage to the car or to the LD, which was in the local RV Park, but my hearing has not been the same since.  :D   8)

We’ve installed Maxxaire vent covers all on our vents.   They’re made of heavy plastic and should protect against hail.   The refrigerator vent cover is not expensive so that’s just a replacement.   The A/C shroud and escape hatch are not protected but they’re made of heavy material.

We’ll moved the Rig so that front is pointing away from the approaching storm.   One time we moved to another campsite that had heavy tree cover.  We have a heavy outdoor rubber backed mat that we place on the windshield.

We keep our LD in a covered 34’ storage unit.  We get hail every year.   Nobody in our neighborhood has a roof much older than 5-7 years.

There’s no protection for grapefruit size hail.

Our insurance is our final protection.

We had a vent damaged by hail (hole in it).  Rest of RV did fine.  Short hail storm but almost golf size hail.
It was pretty easy and inexpensive to replace.

It's too bad you didn't go one step beyond! If you had installed Maxxaire Maxxfans in all roof vent locations you would have found that they are more quiet and just as efficient as the Fantastic's, plus they come with an integral rain cover which can be locked in any position to provide good air flow standing or under way. I have 5 of them in my 2004 30'IB.  :)

Oh yes, you also would not have had to use a screwdriver to remove the screens for cleaning, MaxxAirs come with twist tabs for screen removal.

Fantastic Fan screens pop on and off, FF stopped using screws to secure the screen many years ago.
Older FF models can be updated using the new style screen.

Maxxaire fans are an excellent choice for replacement of a defective or an additional fan.

What a wonderful suggestion.  While I’m at it, we might as well have the Factory repaint the Rig, powder coat the frame, new engine, new transmission.  Let’s see.  All it takes is money.  Why didn’t I think of that?
