When Does the Model Year Begin at LD?
I saw an earlier  post saying the new Ford engine will start production in Jan 2020 and be available for purchase April 2020 - has me wondering when the 2020 model year begins at the Lazy Daze factory?

Curious whether those who pick up a vehicle after April 2020 will likely be getting the new engine or might LD continue to purchase chassis with the "old engine"?

Lazy Daze orders its chassis from Ford, and builds the current year model on what is available from the lot. It is reasonable to expect they will use all the past year chassis before starting the new ones, but don't expect a specific date for when this will occur. I am sure you can make such a request when you order, but likely it will place YOUR order behind more recent ones to accommodate that request.

LD usually begins getting shipments of the model year chassis in the fall, It takes a couple months to build the coach
Years ago when we picked up our new LD, it was in the season's first batch, delivered in late December.
Often rigs are built on a previous years chassis, so it isn't guaranteed what year it will be.
If a V8 is desire, it might be better to wait a year or confirm with the Mothership that it will have the engine you want.
The switchover may not be smooth.

Will have to think about whether we ought to delay a bit, since we're honestly on the fence about getting the brand new engine (like the better mpg but wary of potential new problems)

If me, I would want to wait a year for the bugs to be worked out of the new engine and all the stuff that goes along with it.
But that's just me.

We're on the wait list, but guessing if the 18 months from adding your name to the wait list to delivery holds this puts us on the bubble.

Our TK was built and delivered in 2007 (March) on the last of their stock of ‘06 chassis. The factory and California deem it an ‘06 model. I assume LD incorporated any changes it had been making at the time for its “‘07” models. I got a $500 discount for accepting the older chassis, and went to the head of the build line. This turned out to have been a great decision, as within days of pickup we went to our first Caravan Club outing at Lake Perris and lucked into the subgroup of owners that happened to be the hosting group for newcomers that month (the Past Tents) and began a host of close friendships that we enjoy today, many of whom post on this forum. When your number comes up, grill Steve and tell hime in no uncertain terms, you will only accept the V8,.
He should now by then how the chassis will come equipped.
Beyond this, all is speculation and probably needless worry.

"Will have to think about whether we ought to delay a bit..."

In 2004, prior to the build on my rig, Steve Newton called me and appraised me that the 'Tow Haul' transmission would soon be available. He asked it I would like to delay delivery so that they could provide me with the new feature. I declined the offer, deciding that I could live with the previously proven system, and thereby shortened my waiting period.  ;)

From what I know of the Tow-Haul system I feel that I made the right choice. Having been taught to drive by my father, an over the road, long haul semi-driver, I was no stranger to shifting gears when needed!  ::)

Kit, that was probably my post from the thread below. The post is copied in bold.  I have the same questions and concerns as you so thanks for asking!

2021 E Series

Was at the California RV show in Fontana yesterday and was only briefly able to speak to the Ford rep. There is no 2020 chassis. The 2021 chassis will begin production this January but will probably not be available to motorhome manufacturers until April or so. It's going to be interesting to see how Lazy Daze will handle the timing of their 2020 models. Will they build them on the older E-450 chassis with the V10, or hold off until the new chassis with the V8 is available?

The V8 will have slight increases in horsepower and torque over the V10 and should get better gas mileage but all the numbers are not out yet. Didn't discuss the 10-speed transmission but I'm sure it will be optional, as well as many of the safety features such as adaptive cruise control.

Perhaps if someone else is going to the show, they can extract more info. The rep is located in the big exhibition tent.

Curious when Kit and Greg put their names on the list.  We've been on since 7/30/19.  Will be fun to track and predict when we each may "get the call".

I called and spoke to Todd on August 15th.

Edit: We were planning on visiting the factory early next week but will probably be rescheduling due to the current weather forecast. We were also going to visit the Huntington Library but the thought of walking around the grounds in 90 degree heat isn’t appealing so will wait for a better time.

I believe Ford has announced that the 7.3L will have 430 hp and 475 lbs of torque. No numbers as mpg as of yet.

There are two versions the 7.3L V8. They are described in the follow news release from Ford
All-New Ford 7.3-Liter V8 Set to Drive Best-in-Class Gas Power and Torque...

"DEARBORN, Mich., Aug. 1, 2019 – Ford F-Series, America’s best-selling truck for 42 years, is once again raising the bar for capability with its all-new 7.3-liter V8 gasoline engine. The 7.3-liter engine in Super Duty pickup cranks out best-in-class gas V8 output of 430 horsepower at 5,500 rpm and best-in-class torque of 475 ft.-lb. at 4,000 rpm."

"A dyno-certified version of the 7.3-liter V8 producing 350 horsepower at 3,900 rpm and 468 lb.-ft. of torque at 3,900 rpm will be standard on F-450 chassis cab, F-550, the new F-600, F-650 and F-750 Medium Duty trucks, and F-53 and F-59 stripped chassis models. The upgraded E-Series will also feature the 7.3-liter V8."

The E-series will receive the low power 7.3L engine, along with the six speed. Some joy but not as much as hoped

I'm not so sure there will only be two versions of the new V8 for the release. Notice how Ford says "The upgraded E-Series will also feature the 7.3-liter V8." without any performance numbers given. Given the packaging constraints of the E450 and that many may be run at or near max GVWR and/or GCWR for much of the time coupled with the desire for improved fuel economy it would not surprise me if Ford releases a special-tuned V8 for the E450. Just conjecture but time will tell.

Hmmmm between you and me over the years I've seen to many 'new improvements' go off the rails.    If I was in the market I'd let others do the 'beta' testing of this new truck.    I have no problem throwing a few dollars at new tech but $100,000 gives me a pause.    Old guy caution.......
