We had a very good time at the 2007 Festival, getting to meet a lot of LD crew from the old Yahoo forum and others we had meet the previous year at the Grand Caravan.
I had a chance meet Mike Sylvester, the late RV repair guy who used to come to the Festival every year. I spent a bit of time watching him working and talking with. He encourage me to get into the LD repair biz, to take some pressure off him, telling me had too much work. I took his advice. Mike and his late wife Lisa were a matched pair, wonderful people.

For those who have not attended a Balloon Festival, it's a bucket list item, there is plenty to do in the area if you have a tow vehicle, it's a week long party. Don't party too late, the next day's activities start at about 5:00 AM.

The balloon festival is indeed a spectacle; the "25th anniversary of the Kodak Balloon Festival" was first thing on my post-retirement trips bucket list in 1996. $100 to park on the bluff for three days, but over 800 balloons that year! (Oh, yes, things have changed!  ;) )

As far as I know (more recent attendees can correct this if inaccurate), the daily balloon action for most spectators ends about mid-morning and doesn't start again until the evening glow, so, as Larry pointed out, having a toad or some sort of ride to leave the festival site allows a lot more "goseedo" flexibility.

"...the daily balloon action for most spectators ends about mid-morning..."

Physics being what they are, hot air balloons have greater lift when the surrounding air temperature is cool. In Albuquerque morning temperatures are ideal for flying hot air balloons. They even have a 'Dawn Patrol' that goes up to test conditions. Then, the Mass Ascension begins. Certain terrain features and climate conditions create a situation whereby the balloons find a lower wind draft that carries them southward over the city (and the awestruck spectators just across the road in the RV parking area). Once they have drifted south a certain distance they will then run their burners, gaining altitude, where there is a counter wind draft going northbound. This wind carries them back up to the launch field, whereupon they can virtually land at the very spot from which they were launched (given perfect conditions). This flight pattern is referred to as the "Box". I've seen it happen!

Thanks for your efforts in putting this together! Much as we would like to attend we need to give it a "pass".

Hi all, I'm the lucky dog that bought the 2016 MB that was posted for sale in New Mexico last week.  Got it back to Colorado just in time to try to figure out how to winterize the water system for the hard freeze expected tomorrow evening.
I'm going to give myself a couple of months to learn how everything works and to 'make it mine' then hope to start traveling.  I also signed up for RV driving school.
Thank you to Liz and Lisa for setting up the 2020 Balloon Fiesta gathering.  Please sign me up.  I definitely would like to join you!   Jeanine

For all you Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta attendees... you cannot visit ABQ without a fantastic meal at Sadies! The original restaurant is on lower 4th St., not far from 'Old Town'. Plus there are two more locations that have opened since I was last there. If I were able to reclaim the $$ I've given Sadie's over the years I'd have a much fatter wallet now!  ;D

It was good in 2007, the only problem was deciding on green or red.

The Albuquerque Balloon Festival is definitely something one should experience.  We also have a great time in 2007.  Here a just a few images to try to capture the event.

Liz,
Please add me to the list of attendees.
I was having dinner with someone who grew up in ABQ.  When she heard about the LDO excursion she told me in no uncertain terms that I have to do this.

Please add us to your list as “Probable”. We are Ken and Pat Warner on the list for a 2020 that we thought would be early in the year. Questions about chassis availability mean we can only hope to join you instead of counting on it.

Ken and Pat 2020 hopefully SOB for now
