Introduction / reintroduction to the FOLD
Hello everyone, I’d like to introduce/reintroduce myself to the FOLD.  I’ve been on the forum for several years, learning and enjoying the many topics and expert advice shared by a great group of people.  I haven’t posted much myself, mainly because my SOB days ended about 15 years ago and I didn’t have the LD experience or questions to ask the group.  That’s not to say I didn’t dream about owning an LD, it just wasn’t in the cards.

Well, life has a way of coming around full circle.  Last week I spoke with Todd at the Mothership and got on the list.  Oh joy of joy… I feel like doing a Snoopy dance.  Of course I got the standard line of 12-18 months with the possibility of something sooner.

The plan is to liquidate everything and solo full time.  I have about a million things to do in preparation and I’ll probably have just as many questions for the group.  Any help to realize the dream will be much appreciated.

Lastly, about the name change.  Some of you may know me as Jack but as you can see, this post is signed as John.  I’ve been retired for a few years, but when I was working there were no less than four John’s in a rather small office.  To avoid confusion, I went by my childhood moniker Jack.  Now that I’m retired, I go by my preferred and given name John.  But I do answer to either one.

A big thank you to everyone in the group and a special thanks to the moderators for maintaining the welcoming feeling.

Welcome both John and Jack!  We just got on the list late last week so maybe we can compare notes when we both “get the call!”

Bill,  John's signature states he is on the list for a 27 MB. Funny, I don't remember Todd asking me what model I was interested in but I guess you do that when the deposit is put down.

Bill & Greg,
It was a pretty short phone call, a few pleasantries were exchanged and he asked for my phone number and the model I was interested in.  I don’t think he even asked for my name.  And yes, I did tell him I was interested in the 27 MB.

Well, he did at least ask for my name and phone number. Did he give you any idea the timeframe for the build once the deposit is put down. I forgot to ask!

No he didn't.  I mentioned the 12-18 month timeline, saying that is what I read on this forum and he concurred.  He did say that some people would buy something else and fail to notify him, so that is why it possibly could be sooner.

We've also just put ourselves on the waiting list and, similarly,Todd did not ask use which model we're interested in either.  Guessing that will happen when we get "the call" to ask if we're ready for him to find a chassis.

Yes, he told me that as well. Someone on this forum recently said that Todd told them about 50% of people on the list ultimately do not make a purchase.

I'm liking the odds better.  Maybe the "new owners" should be looking for a 2021 meetup.

Yes, that's he mentioned that to us - but also that this is something they've been experiencing only very recently.
In the past, it's been more like 1-2% - the recent rate of half declining is apparently making it much more difficult to forecast a likely delivery date

Sounds like a fun idea - wondering how many of us "newbies" there will be

Don't know if this is of help to anyone, but here are my notes on the ordering/pick-up process (gleaned from the forum)
Please, feel free to correct me if I've got something wrong or am missing something important

The Ordering/Pick Up Process:
* When you contact Lazy Daze, the factory rep will inform you it normally takes from 10-18 months before you'll receive delivery of your new coach. (often it's been nearer 18 months)
* Add your name to the waiting list - no deposit or money down at this time.
*Then, 4-6 months later depending on the current wait list and who says "yes", they'll call to see if you still want a motor home and are ready to have them find a chassis for you.
* They'll send a factory packet with prices, option choices & prices and fabric & cabinet samples
* You'll place your order, submit a signed purchase order and make your deposit
* Before you put your deposit down, be sure it's what you really want - if you change your mind you'll lose the deposit
* When you take delivery, you'll either pay cash, with a cashier's check or wire transfer, OR if you don't pay cash you will need to get your own financing set up.
* Then wait another 6-12 months for the call saying your new LD will be ready very soon
* Generally, you'll get notice of 2-3 weeks to allow you to make travel arrangements to the factory
* Sales tax in Montclair is 8% if you take delivery at the factory
* Or you can have them hire a drive to deliver it to another state with a lower sales tax rate
* Think about whether you'll trust a hired driver to properly break in the engine or whether it's worth it to pick it up at the factory so you can break it in yourself
* Schedule a morning walk through - this will take several hours and cover a lot of information
* If you can, plan to have one person video the the session for future reference and another to listen and ask questions.
* Many stay at the Pomona KOA or Bonelli Bluffs RV Park near the factory to allow time to  thoroughly test out all systems
* That way, any issues uncovered post-delivery can be taken care of at the factory before leaving the area
* When you're ready to leave  - plan on departing early, early in the morning - you'll want to avoid the awful traffic in the valley if at all possible

I've been on the list since July 2018.  That's when I first contacted Todd and asked about ordering to take possession in Aug/Sept 2020.  He said get on the list now and we'll adjust as time goes on.

I talked to him again in July 2019 and he said I should expect to order in January 2020 for my delivery time frame.

Side question.....will our LD's be 2021 LD's because Ford is skipping MY2020 on E-450 Cutaways? Model year 2021 new engine E-450's start production in January 2020 according to fleet ordering brochures I've seen floating around on the internet.

Thanks for the list but I don't quite understand this one. Why would you need to set up financing "before" you put down a deposit since it's several months to a year before you would complete the transaction?

There's  a place on the purchase order form to check off whether you'll be paying cash or have arranged financing. Guess you could wait to actually arrange financing until a bit later.

Edited the "before" out of my list to avoid confusion, thanks

I think the place on the form about financing is to let them know if you might be backing out because of financing issues.
