Interesting (and addicting as you said) Glen, especially for those of us that live in the Tehachapi area. Many may not know that the US Geological Survey recently named Kern County as the wind capital of the world. Some have jokingly said it's so windy in Tehachapi because Bakersfield blows and Mojave sucks.  :-X   ;D

Wasn't USGS that claimed so.  Tehachapi News did so.   USGS reported Kern with greatest number of turbines in the country, almost 8% of the inventory. According to this report  USA's 96 GW is second to China's 221 GW.  With the State pushing for renewable energy sources its not surpising California has almost 15% of the national inventory.

An aside question is why installed hydroelectric power is not considered 'renewable' but wind, which gets lots of tax breaks and incentives, is?

When you d/l the mobile app,  turn on the lighting tracker.   It doses  a little haptic  buzz when the lighting lights up on the screen.   yea yea I really need to get out once and awhile .....

Joel, to further derail Glen's post (apologies), and to clarify, I think the Tehachapi News picked up on this one statement in the third paragraph of the article and ran with it:  "Not only does the Golden Empire have more turbines, the USGS says it has the highest turbine density in the world."

If you ever pass through our part of the state and want to get a close-up view, take a drive on Tehachapi-Willow Springs Rd. which goes right through the wind turbines, as well as the Pacific Crest Trail.

Hahaha. Born, raised, and married in Bakersfield. Left 48 years ago and moved to Leucadia, California and now reside in Oceanside, California. Most of our surviving relatives are still in Bakersfield; besides us only one sister, one cousin, and a nephew who now lives in Tehachapi "escaped".
