Oil Filter May 24, 2019, 08:00:54 pm 1989 chevy g30 using non synthetic motor oil. What would be the best filter to use? 23.5k miles. Motor is in immaculate condition.

As to the Brand, before I got lazy and started having my service facility do my oil changes, I never used anything besides Fram filters, over several vehicles and several years. 1 Likes

There are several comparison videos on U-tube such as this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iTNJLEV8CG8 They are worth watching.Most all show that Fram is the worst in quality. I have to take exception to your quote as misleading. While nearly everyone (colostomies excepted) is limited to only one of the latter, many seem to have an unlimited supply of the former. Re: Oil Filter Reply #7 – May 25, 2019, 12:06:00 pm Per the manual, I've used Motorcraft 5W-20 "synblend" oil and oil filters (FL820S) on my 2003 from the beginning. I had an oil analysis done by Blackstone Labs at 109k; the analysis showed element numbers well under the expected levels, no "contaminants", and "solubles" at a very low 0.2%. I do change the oil and filter at 3000 mile intervals; old school, yes, but cheap "insurance" for long engine life.Blackstone sends a "free" oil test kit; the test and written report are $28. Re: Oil Filter Reply #8 – May 25, 2019, 01:44:53 pm Most any brand name filter will work as long as the oil is changed regularly.My favorite is the Purolator PureONE, along with the Mobil I and Bosch Premium filters.It is difficult to find properly done testing between the many filters and thus a lot of misinformation.During the fleet oil testing I reported on earlier, we also tested different filters, using similar vehicles for the comparison.The PureONE filters we has been using worked as well as the other premium tested brands.Most filter companies have a range of filters, stay away from the cheaper models . Oil and filters are a lot cheaper than a new motor. BTDTLarry 3 Likes
