You have either run out of hydraulic fluid, the power steering pump has failed or some other part in the system has died.Check the power steering fluid level and look for hydraulic fluid leaks, it is a nearly clear oil.DON'T DRIVE IT without finding and curing the fault, without the pump working, you have no brakes and next to impossible to turn steering.Larry 2 Likes

Re: What Happened? Reply #4 – May 11, 2019, 09:09:28 am Hydro boost pump belt, almost certainly. It's a common failure point with Chevy-based vans of that vintage. 1 Likes
Re: What Happened? Reply #5 – May 11, 2019, 09:29:42 am When I replaced the pump in our '83, there was still some air in the hydraulics. I remember coasting up to a rest-stop truck slot off the I-5 and suddenly no power to brakes or steering. Shifting to neutral and revving the engine brought it back. Eventually the air bubbles bled through to the reservoir, and then no more issues.Steve

Bad o-rings but at only $20, decided to replace it. All is now good. 1 Likes
